hello all, well after reading all the theads about crs and keeping up w/ you all for the last 1 1/2 months i made the decision and i start school on the 27th of april.. i use to drive otr back in the early 90's and alot has changed from back then. since then all i've done is drive 45' prevost motor coach for the last 8 years. i'm going to continue to work till a few days before i leave to make and save as much $$ as a can for bills for the 1st 2 months that im gone so wifey can keep up. i also want to start getting the stuff i need to be comfortable out on the road. that brings me to a few ??? i have like i said alot has changed since i last drove otr.. *1* whats a good size inverter to get for running a laptop , sm fridge or cooler , tv dvd combo , coffee maker , police scanner ( got to have cb handle is " scanner man " ) , any thing else you may think of.. ( i was thinking of a cobra 1500 ) *2* are the trucks set up w/ tv's or a cb or do i have to buy them how bout the antena for cb *3* just how much room is there in the volvos for a fridge or should i stick with a 12 volt cooler *4* will the shop help set up all the elec. stuff for you ( i know i dont want to spend too much time in the shop ) *5* is there a wally world near the school , i will only be bringing my clothes w/ me since im going to fly to slc ( 99 $ ) that way i can buy bedding stuff there for trainers truck .. most of this stuff ( big stuff ) iwill leave at home till i get there after upgrading .. well thats about it for now .. thanks inadvance and keep up this thread that JJ started , i know it helped me make my decision to go to crs

Welcome to the Central part of the Thread!!

There is a Shuttle that goes to Wally world from the terminal, drops you there and you have an hr.

JJ and I have a 2500 Watt inverter and we run Microwave, coffee maker, Toaster, Sandwich Maker, our Laptops and the TV, LOL obviously not all at once, we have two Coolers in the truck which we plug into the outlets in the truck.

Your truck will be basic and doesn't come with a CB or TV, it will pretty much have your Mattress and that's it lol.

The trucks have an area on the dash with Velcro for your CB to go pretty easy from what I understand to connect, the shop I'm pretty sure will wire in a power inverter I'm not sure what size they allow but think 1500 would be fine.

The antenna will be on the truck!

Hey ustatruck, looks like we will be classmates. I am also flying in, 3.5 hours in the air vs 30 on a bus is a no brainer for me. It's good to know there is a local Walmart, I will probably wait to get my bedroll til we get there as well. I will however be lugging the laptop along.

1bad is new on his own in a volvo. There is plenty of clothes storage and room for a 15 in max tv. As far as a fridge no way! He took a 12 pk cooler w/ him when he left this morning. I found one at walmart that holds ice for 5 days for 22.97. JJ and Jess's Pete has alot more storage than the volvo does for electronics. You will be by yourself so you can use the top bunk to store coffe maker, microwave, toaster stuff like that then just pull it down and put in on top of the cabinet when you are using it. I put stuff like waters, cans sodas, a couple gallons of tea (we're southern and gotta have good sweet tea..........lol) snacks on the top bunk. He flew home for a couple days after school before training. And brought a 30 in duffle and a cpap back on the flight w/ him and had no issues. He was even able to get a pocket knife through the Atlanta airport security going back out. Keep in mind while you are at the terminal in the cells there is no way to heat food. They don't tell you that before your 1st trip to Walmart. I know he bought some food that could be easily cooked in a mircowave and ended up having to eat it cold. So eat a big lunch in the chow wagon thing and skip dinner. The shuttle does go to walmart every day but only one shuttle and you may not always get a seat depending on how many are in your class. There is a little roach coach thing that comes by after class 1bad says is pretty good and very resonably priced. Hope that little bit of info helps you out. Just pinch pennies while you are at school b/c once your out w/ your trainer the truck stops can and will get very expensive when you are eating out of them a couple times a day.

Probably wouldn't hurt Fozzy. 1bad took the bus out (3days on a grey hound) only because we had to keep things going here at home. And trust me when I say for the 1st 2 months VERY little money comes in. After taxes and fees he made less than 2k so far! So he had to eat very cheap and still does for the next month most likely. When he left this morning he had 20 bucks in his pocket. And while he was home I made sure to have left overs to put in the cooler and deli meats for sandwiches. Which is never a bad idea. When he got upgraded and was coming home he was stuck in MO for 2 days no where near anything to eat or drink. So I made sure he had something w/ him in case that happens again. A hungry trucker is NOT a good thing trust that!
