Hi all,
I'm starting school on monday with bigcalitrucker at tda in modesto. just noticed on the paper work that they changed from a 3 week to a 4 week class. and then the orintation in fontana as before. I will ask on monday if it is true, but was wondering if anyone here knows of the change or if it just a typo. I can't wait to get started. The extra week would be a bummer, but not too bad. Just an extra week of practice. there is only going to be 5 of us in the class so that is nice. 1 is not going with central.

mxzhead,
Friday was fun dude. Signed our life away but still cool. lol. I thought that when I first was there he said that it was 3 weeks of behinf-the-wheel training? Wow, another week of that would be ok. Like you said, just another week of practice. But the class hopfully will still be fun. Do you understand the whole 5 weeks with the trainer part? Are we gonna ride along with someone on their route? Or are they gonna help us out on our runs? Either way would be cool. Someone that knows how to drive will be there to help us the first time we are actually out on the road. That would be cool. Anyways buddy I will see you bright and early tomorrow morning man.

Your time with a trainer will be on the trainers truck.
The trainer is supposed to do the job of actually teaching you to drive. All the classes teach you is how to pass a test. You will not be a driver at that point.
You will have just learned enough to be dangerous.
Trainer will also teach you how to deal with shippers and receivers. How to do all your paperwork. They will get you use to using your qualcom for messaging, logs etc.
They will help you to learn how to back up better. Docks and truck stops are nothing like training at school.
They should also work more with you on driving in various terrain, trip management, and many other things.
When you get out on your own for the first time you will tend to forget the things have been taught no matter how much you learn. It will scare the heck out of you for the first few weeks.
If you are not lucky you will end up with a trainer that will teach you none of these things. They will use you just to get more miles and will not even sit up front and help you at first as they should. You will be just another log book and be running as a team driver.
Most drivers this happens too do not last long. Many will not upgrade. Some will fail the driving test and get sent home. Others will upgrade but will not have the skills they need to make it on the road and will be home in a few months max.

Oh wow. I really hope then that I get a trainer that really teaches me. Is there any way I could change trainers if I get someone like that? I hope that I get one that really does their job. That would be nice. Thanks again Chrome.

I know you use to be able too. I am guessing that you can still request a new trainer.
Sometimes this even happens just because the trainer and trainee do not get along.

That's funny! Trl tire just blew out in Dallas, ga. I had to play yard dog at kraft yesterday because a kraft trl was so close to mine i couldn't get the landing gear up. So I hastily move their trl to get mine since that place is shut down on weekends. No warehouse people no yard dog. Just some people in the office and security guard.

Mikey when you get to Norcross do not expect to find an empty. Atlanta is the pits for empty trailers. Oh yeah Norcross is a drop only .. you could have dropped it early...

Hershey and several places near there will normally have some. One is the place that does the ken's dressing. One other place down that way and I cannot remember what it is for the life of me. But they are locked up weekends. So they have a bunch available monday morning normally.
