Ok thanks Newtruckerwidow, read yours after I wrote this.

$70 a week, I am paying about $74 a week on my own now with Aetna. What is the deductable? Mine is $2500. So far doesn't sound like a good deal unless the deductable is $500 or less.

If they give 2500-3000 miles a week then not so bad I guess..

Not sure what the single deductible is off the top of my head and all the paperwork is in storage after our recent move. But the family deductible is $1500. Then 80/20 PPO. I am wanting to say the single is $500 but don't quote me on that. Just trying to remember what I read on it when we were enrolling.

On a different note last night my auto sprinkler system stopped working after I cleaned the filters. It was late so I said bugger it and went to bed.

Today tried to get them working again and still no go.....So I decided it was time for some redneck plumbing SOOOOOOO turned the water of and took the filter out again and found out I had put it in upside down so changed the filter around and then tried to screw the filter cover back on and it was leaking because I couldn't get the angle I needed to not cross thread it.....So out came the hacksaw and 2 minutes later and the filter cover was a few inches shorter and it finally screwed back in and its workin fine.

Also had to fix the kitchen tap on the weekend because i refused to pay almost $300.00 for a new one I pity the person that has to fix it again I just pray it ain't me.

My next redneck project is to rebuild the tranny in JJ's Mustang. But then again maybe I should just do an oil change and grease job first.

Hey y'all. I WAS going to ask my recruiter this question, but. um, well, you know......

I know it's stupid, and I'm an idiot, and I'll fail, and I'll starve, and I'll lose my house, my wife will leave me, my dog will bite me when I come home, and my child will grow up to be a serial killer, and my car will get repossessed, and I should go drive company a while first, and I'm just the kind of ridiculous fool, newbie sphincter the company is looking for, and all the other drivers will hate me and ridicule me for my lack of judgement and good breeding, and laugh behind my back as I pull off the lot in my old ### truck in Utah.....etc.. OK. so I just saved you the trouble. Thanks for the concern though. It's nice of you to be concerned for my welfare, your Momma would be proud of her kind-hearted child. Now....

I want to get as short a first lease term as I can possibly get. ie: ask for the oldest truck available. How short a lease term / how old a truck can I likely get? RIGHT OUT OF TRAINING. maybe a month later at most. Likely to be a Volvo, I'm guessing.

I don't care about looking good, (too old to care) I don't care about creature comforts (I ride a Road King all day in the AZ SUMMER) I don't care all that much about getting home any more than a few days after 4 weeks out, (the wife LIKES the idea of my being gone, I'll have to do my own laundry, and the beer budget will decrease) and I'll stay out longer, if that's what it takes to make it.

I DO care about running as low cost as I can to get my operating skills (managing the business and my self) up to par while keeping my risk exposure to a minimum. I don't want to be thinking about a long term, great big lease payment on a pretty new truck until I've proven to myself I can do the job well enough to justify it. That way, I can go to a better truck after I've completed self-training.

That last goes to the point of finding the right L/O (not company) trainer. I have nothing against company drivers, but I'm probably gonna be OK driving the truck after a few weeks on the road. What I'm going to want, is ALL the training as I can get about load selection/evaluation, trip planning, expense management, managing the books, handling maintenance, logs management, DOT regs, and the where/when/how with shippers and receivers at Central. In short, the BUSINESS aspects I'm going to need and want to be successful LEASING. (just resist the temptation to ridicule me... i GOT it!! LOL)

Any Help/advice?

So I've heard that when you idle it costs about 2 gallons of fuel an hour. Does this sound right?

1/ OK as a L/O with central they send you a load you don't get several choices on loads.

2/ You get 0.85 a mile loaded and empty.

3/ Fuel Surcharge only paid on loaded miles.

4/ I should hope that no one on this thread would ridicule you and if they did I would be very disappointed.

5/ A lot of people are right leasing a truck from the company you work for is risky, you might have an FM who really doesn't give a flying cow if you are successful or fail.

6/ As far as I know they don't have a short term Lease don't quote me because I am not 100% Positive on that.

7/ If you do decide to Lease and you find it isn't for you, You can try get someone o take over your Lease and Central will work with you on that (So I hear)

8/ Newer truck = less break downs and I wouldn't lease an older Volvo if you paid me to do it, to many expensive electrical problems.

9/ The big wait for trucks seems to be with Petes and Kenworths much easier to get someone to take over your Lease.

10/ There is an accountant at Central from ATBS (Corey) They charge $16.00 a week for his services to do Quarterly taxes or you can use your own accountant.

11/ You can set up a maintenance acct with Central they deduct whatever amount you want straight out of your settlement, We use our maintenance acct for new tires, new Windshield and things like that, Central charge you a $20.00 fee every time you use the acct so we pay for small stuff and services with our debit card.

I guess what I am trying to say is leasing an old truck wasn't the way we wanted to go as you are more likely to have costly breakdowns which are no longer covered under warranty and if you decide the Lease isn't for you it is much easier to get rid of a newer truck with Lower miles.

Techiekate I don't think its quiet that high But I could be wrong.

Redneck engineering doesn't get the respect it deserves, 99% of redneck repairs are better then any "Real" repair that a "Professional" could do.

Depends, mine will burn about 1 gallon an hour.

You can get your hands on some short term leases from the company, however they are few & far between. You can find one faster by keepinf an eye out for an add at one of the terminals from a driver looking to get out of theirs.

Sucks repairing stuff when JJ is away mainly because his toolboxes are so unorganised and it takes me ages to find anything.

Tonight I might have to reorganise the toolboxes Won't JJ be surprised when he gets home HAHAHA.

He takes all the good tools with him in the truck and leaves me with the old drill and crappy tools!

Well I'm still here. Got my medical card and we are doing practice testing right now. I finished early and found out about these 2 computers you can use here at the terminal. Just at the top of the stairs, first hallway left then left just before the elevators into the big room that has the windows facing the stair. 2 computers in the back corner. Go down tomorrow for permit testing. I'm picking things up pretty well at least as far as these practice tests are concerned. Looks like everything is going good for me so far. Any trainers or others around that are on this board I'm the guy with the blue Pepperdine University hat on. Has a P on it only. Well I better get back to class!!
