Glad you checked in BIGGJA, looking forward to hearing about your experiences over the next two weeks. Seems like I recall someone else mentioning that they were able to find computer access during the first week in school.

Best of luck in your Quest!!

5/ A lot of people are right leasing a truck from the company you work for is risky, you might have an FM who really doesn't give a flying cow if you are successful or fail.
I'm aware of the risk. I've read every negative post in the forum about that. I'm no pollyanna. I did some pessimistic projections as far as what I might be making before deciding we could tolerate the risk. Was it pessimistic enough? We'll see. Helps my wife works for the government.

6/ As far as I know they don't have a short term Lease don't quote me because I am not 100% Positive on that.
I see Brickman's subsequent post in that regard. Something to consider. Thanks Bman.

7/ If you do decide to Lease and you find it isn't for you, You can try get someone o take over your Lease and Central will work with you on that (So I hear)
Leasing is what I'll do. It would take a miracle to let me go company for any period of time, and I've been waiting for THAT miracle for a long, long time. Ain't happening. There's ZERO waffle on this point. I'm not waiting and seeing how it goes so I can make up my mind later based on my feeeeelings about it. I've thought long and hard about it. What I commit to, I'll DO, but it's good to know that there's some hope of an out if I wasn't pessimistic enough.

8/ Newer truck = less break downs and I wouldn't lease an older Volvo if you paid me to do it, to many expensive electrical problems.
This is what my Dad would have told me if he hadn't passed away this spring. He thanks you, and I know he was right anyway. Never had a cornbinder older than 2 years. (Logger) I asked about it trying to get as low a monthly nut as I can manage, and for as short a period of time as I can. It IS a better plan to be running a new/more reliable truck... expecially in the long term.
Quote:
9/ The big wait for trucks seems to be with Petes and Kenworths much easier to get someone to take over your Lease.
I care less about the style and kind than about mileage, quality, and reliability. But I do like them petes and KWs. Never drove anything but a freightshaker classic or a midroof volvo. well, the log truck... but that doesn't count. I'd say anything but that!!!.... but then that's what I'd get.
Quote:
10/ There is an accountant at Central from ATBS (Corey) They charge $16.00 a week for his services to do Quarterly taxes or you can use your own accountant.
Been there, seen them. I like them, and intend to use them, but it's GIGO, and I plan to run my own accounting on the fly so I know where I am all the time. Knowledge is power.
Quote:
11/ You can set up a maintenance acct with Central they deduct whatever amount you want straight out of your settlement, We use our maintenance acct for new tires, new Windshield and things like that, Central charge you a $20.00 fee every time you use the acct so we pay for small stuff and services with our debit card.
Me too. No other way to run. nickle a mile, or whatever. ($110-$125 a week-ish)
Quote:
I guess what I am trying to say is leasing an old truck wasn't the way we wanted to go as you are more likely to have costly breakdowns which are no longer covered under warranty and if you decide the Lease isn't for you it is much easier to get rid of a newer truck with Lower miles.
Well, the premise was that I'd be looking to run that old truck about a year or less. I lost the argument with Dad about this, it was clear he was right. I'd be counting on some pretty good luck...but then new trucks don't have "magical no breakdown" powers either.
Thanks a mess, Jess.

Well 1bad's new pete was delivered to WVC today. I guess he is really gonna lease! We are at the point that things can only go up from here I guess so why not give it a shot. He will head to WVC after his hometime this weekend to pick it up. His new dispatch is eager to get him on her fleet. So hopefully his miles will pick up big time to cover all the cost he is going to incur. She called him this afternoon and told him she has loads to get him 3000 plus a week. Seeing as how that has never happened for him I will believe it when I see it!!!!!!!! I am just glad he is getting rid of the head crack dealer he has been plauged with since day one! Ok that was my ranting for the day I promise to slow down on ranting, it's just been a hard couple of weeks for us lately. Thank you all for listening and not banning me from this thread! I will get back to my jovial self I promise!!!!!

Thanks for chating yesterday Jess, I really did miss our late night conversations we had been having for months you are my saving grace in all this craziness!

i just got this off of the Central paperwork. Insurance for a Single Driver is $28.00 per week so $112.00 per month i have no idea what the copays are so you might want to ask a HR person or a recruiter

We have a $25 doctor copay and a $50 er copay that is waived if you are admitted through the er. Keep in mind all this varies state to state. It depends on where your home address is. I know this because I did medical billing for over 5 years billing pathology, clinical labs and anthesia. Just my 2 cents worth on the subject. I do like to think I am well versed in every aspect of insurance regardless of who the carrier is. I used to specialize in Medicare and Medicaid.

I am not ridiculing you. Everything that I have read on leasing when first getting into this business is not so good. Just want you to think about maybe going out for 60 to 90 days on your own. That way you visit the truck stops; see if you can pick up a lease that is mid way through. It will also give you some time and the company some time to figure things out on both sides. Just a thought.

RE: APU's and idle time
What about roll-over idle time? Build it up during Spring and Fall, use it during summer and winter. (I know - in my dreams! LOL) Again, just a thought.

All: It is nice seeing everyone here.

The idle % is based on the hours the engine is running.
So if you drive 99 min, then idle 1 min. You have 1% idle.
It is really easy to get the numbers down if you keep track of it all month. A 34 hour restart is your worst enemy though.
I know many people do not like Truck Stops. But if you can even get yourself to go into the TV room or something there for 2 hours, that is 2 hours you can idle later (if needed). The idle does not start to add up on the trucks till you have idled a few min anyway. So traffic lights and such will not affect you most of the time.
It just takes planning to keep it down.
The best way to keep it down is getting miles though. If you are getting 3000 miles a week your idle will be down. you are not sitting enought each day to wrack it up too high.
