Unless you have a great FM you won't make it as a Solo Lease op, Teams and trainers do better!

Even training the last month JJ's miles were skinny

Its pretty simple Central don't have the freight for everyone to get good miles at the moment.
I have read a lot about Lease options. I have nothing against those who do, but IMO it's a losing proposition for the most part. Leasing from the company you run for reminds me of the Company Store philosophy of mining camps and Share Croppers.

Surely there must be some lease options that work? But what I see of Central's, I can not foresee getting into that situation for myself.

Oh and I almost forgot, out on I-5 through Stockton, CA, there is a street called Hammer Lane, and arrow points at the right lane...the only place I know of where the Hammer Lane is the right lane =)

You can lease through an outside lease company and get the truck you want for less money and be able to move to another company with it. Sounds like a lot better deal to me.

The musical was better, but I usually feel that way.
And it really is an area that is in two towns. I don't believe you'll find it on a map

Well lets see, the lease at Central runs about $970 dollars a week for a pete. Thats $151,320 bucks for a three year lease, and if you want to buy it out at the end you only have to come up with about $70,000 dollars. Not a bad deal, $221,320 for a truck they paid $115,000 for. And just think it will only have about 700,000 miles on it, because thats what you are going to have to run to keep it, and feed a family and cars, and a morguage, and insurance, and all your other home bills, don't forget the quarterly taxes. Not to mention, you will be paying for 100% of all the maintenence on the truck.

After talking things through, we will probably only use Central for the education and my initial experience. Other than that, we will make sure whatever choice we make in a year or so is the one that is best for our family. We have heard it is rough as a solo lease, which is why we continue to remap things each time we get new information.

Can JJ train us, Jess?? Then at least we'd be keeping the money with people we know.
No he won't be training when you and your Hubby are ready for a trainer, but I do know a few good trainers and I will give you a list when your ready!

Unlike Mama Mia, JJ, and some of the others, I'm not a business oriented person. I'll be company the rest of my life and I'm pretty ok with that. Gotta know your limitations. Hey JJ, can I come drive for you when you start your company?

At least the motel I'm in is very nice and there's a quickie mart across the street for beer runs. Woo hoo. Just wish I knew how long I will be here. Anybody in the Dallas, Rockwall area wanna come show me a good time?
Uh huh if and when it happens, I have a list and it has three names,Bill, Mike and Paul, I think your name is in there somewhere!

I'd wait 2 years to find a company that I'd stick with...I'm the kind of person that is more comfortable sticking with a company for an extended period, I'm not used to job hopping.

I was with Central for a year and a half or so.
They were ok to me, or at least the dispatcher I had OTR was good, and John on Kraft would listen, since he was a driver for a long time before he was in charge of the Kraft fleet.
That was where the regular miles came from though. Dedicated was nice, espically once I got the #1 spot on my loop, so I got priority on the loads and did not have to run all over gods creation to get back.
I left simply because my wife could not deal with it. I was thru home every week for at least a night but it was still too much for her.
I have to say she misses the money though. She has told me to go back several times because at least at Central I took home 1000 a week every week, accept my weekend I would take off once a month and that week was 800.

If you get a good fleet manager or dispatcher and you can keep a positive attatude the miles available will come. Try to never let night or weekend dispatch take your load though. When they try, do all you can to contact someone higher on the food chain. On a rare occasion they would hook me up for helping them out, most of the time you are just screwed for helping though. Unless it is a top end planner asking for the change. They are good to be in with. A planner can make or break you.
I sent mine in Kraft flowers a few times. Helps lol.
