I imagine Schneider is going to do it in phases so it hurts less and the outrage/mass quitings is not so great. I would say they'll wait a month or so and then say trucks going to 55...then a few more months going to 52 to ease the drivers into it? This is just my suspicion and you can BET they think about that and know better than to do it all at once.

Slow Pumpkin.

Millis has went from 68 to 66. 2 Blue Beacon down to 1. Times are tuff but at least Schnider has a strong customer base that they can rely upon. I still rather drive orenge than alot of faster companies that dont have the freight. Good Luck and hopefully thing will come to a calm soon.

Snow

Teams are still at 65.

I'm dedicated and it will be 60 for me.

Many people still are in disbelief that fuel is 4-5$ a gallon = SlowDown 2008!

I am wondering if Crete is going to slow down. Also, remember Swift has slowed down as well. One member who drives for Maverick has his truck at 58. Next will be? I think FFE and/or Werner.

The companies are trying to remain profitable folks. With the cost of diesel rising higher and higher they must adapt or they too will go out of business.

Savvy business owners understand that by slowing down they can increase their fuel economy over all. For example I drive a 2006 Volvo with a Volvo engine. This is a company truck and is governed to 70 mph. I run team out west and the majority of time the truck is on cruise control at top speed to get there as quick as we can. This truck get 4.9 to 5.1 mpg at this speed. Now in the past I have run the midwest at around 60 mph for several days and had fuel economy closer to 6 mpg.

Remember guys the key is to remain employed so you can still collect a paycheck every week. Running fast is counterproductive with the price of diesel fuel over 4 dollars a gallon.

It may very well come down to that gearjammer. Each company will weigh the benefits of slowing down the trucks in each division. In the case of expedited or high priority freight the trucks will probably be left alone.

Some of the major players did have the foresight to purchase fuel in advance and signed contracts to lock in fuel prices at a certain price. The airline industry has done something similar to hedge against the increasing costs of fuel.

Cut the speed down to 55 MPH, then pay the drivers by the hour. That would probably do more to reduce fuel consumption and improve safety than anything.
