I remember back in the 90's when the pumpkins were running 55 and they made good money due to the fuel bonuses. my comapny (Hartt Transportation) is governed out at 67mph with some exceptions, however they watch the idle time

Slow trucks are a problem.... Today on I-81 in VA, Super Service, who either has been turned down to 60 mph or was just poking along for the kick of it had traffic backed up for over a mile. Two lanes, and then one of the 63 mph trucks tries to overtake him. People were pissed! When Mr 63mph finally made his move, the traffic blasted past the slow parade probably about 75 mph, including all of the trucks that aren't governed. VA law askes big trucks that go less than 65 to stay out of the hammer lane. OK, drivers of 63 mph trucks, are YOU going to obay that? Didn't Swift get into trouble in AZ regarding causing a hazard by being so far out of the flow of traffic? Plan to hear about some spectacular accidents, rear end type in rolly polly hill areas (like MO along I-70). Folks cresting hills and not expecting a big truck going 10 mph below the speed limit and then it's too late...Before long the savings from turning the trucks down will be tied up in loss funds pending insurance claims and lawsuits.

I could be wrong but I think that "trucks slower than 65mph stay in the right lane" for VA is for grades. But do you really expect a guy in a 63mph truck to stay behind a 60mph truck forever just so you don't have to slow down for half a mile and patiently wait for the pass? Are you saying if you were in the 63mph truck you woul;d never get out to pass someone going 60 or 55? Uh huh, yeah, right... It might take a minute or two for swift so what's the big deal? A 3 mph difference, probably it's less than 30 seconds to pass, that shouldn't cause your panties to get in a wad maybe you're in the wrong line of work?... Slow trucks don't cause accidents, inattentive and impatient drivers do...

Back to another reply about trucking companies trying to stay profitable: I could care less if some of these giants go belly up. There are FAR too many trucking companies out there already. Less companies, less trucks, fewer drivers - bring the pay scale back up. Heck, maybe even make it a respectable profession again - as it was in the past. I believe some of the companies NEED to go bankrupt.

| Accident I drive I-81 alot. Therer are no signs stating thst left lane is for 65mph only. If you are not in control of your truck you should not be on the road. Fuel is not ever going don so more and more trucks ill be slowing down to surive. If you have rearend accident with my company if will be let go on the spot. THere are too many steering wheel holders instead of being an driver.

I recall a driver complaining about a Va state trooper actually pulling him over and writing him a ticket for this very thing. The driver went to court and lost when the trooper told the judge he had to hit his brakes while going up hill because the truck was traveling below the posted speed limit in the left lane, in clear violation of the posted signs. The ticket was written as; "failure to obey a traffic control device." Bottom line stay out of the left lane in Va unless your traveling at the speed limit on those particular upgrades.
