Schneider National Going To 60mph

Got a message on my qaulcom a couple of days ago from Wayne Lubner. Callled in and was told that the solo company trucks are going to be turned down to 60mph. He first said that our customers are more concious of the enviornment and expect us to be as well, said that Schneider would save 8 to 17 million a year. Personally I could except it a lot more if half the trucks are the road couldnt do 100mph. This will take effect in July and be done during our pm's. Dont know what to think. I've been with Schneider Nationl since november 2006. This message board helped me to decide on them and I still believe them to be the best in the industry, but this stings a bit. Slower then yellow, j.b hunt, swift, conway, usa trucks, Saia, ABF slower then everybody!!!

this has to do with driver pay more than anything else, there is an overcapacity of trucks right now so there is no urgency in getting the loads there so why not cut the drivers pay and the easiest way to do it is to turn the trucks down,
with a click of a mouse the are able to reduce your pay between 10 to 15% the only loose is the driver

I got the message last week as well...Im on a dedicated gig and as far as I know, wont be affected by the slow down. But Im pretty sure that we are not going to be the only company slowing down.

Yeah...sure...driver pay is what is doing it...considering the fact that they RAISED the pay last fall. The issue is NOT driver pay...but FUEL. If you pay over 600-700 a day for fuel and 100 bucks for drivers pay...and the fuel is what is going up...you are going to cut driver pay? How do you figure that?

I am new and considering Schneider. Does the fuel cost come out of our pocket? Or is it, as you mentioned, driven by time? I am considering so please excuse my green (stupid) wording.

Welcome Blackdogghost. If you are a company driver, the company pays for the fuel for the trucks. But, if the company is spending more money on fuel, that can be less money available for them to offer in pay and bonuses to the drivers.

I wonder how many more companies will be turning their trucks down in the near future? If Schnieder, Trans Am, and Central are all going for it, who's going to be next?
