Orientation was a week long, I think. Maybe only 4 days. I can't tell you anything about their training because I was neither a trainer nor a trainee there. I worked there after already being a driver for 3 years. They program they use to make an experienced driver a trainer is among the best I've seen though. You had to have at least 2 years OTR and been with the company for at least a year with no accidents, tickets or other problems within the company (such as late loads, etc.).

I did quite well there financially. But I also stayed out for weeks on end. In fact in a 3 month period I was only home twice. That was my own choice, though.

How does per diem work?
I have a child but can't claim as dpendant.

Just starting out no exp. 35k-40k realisticly but it's not uncommon for our first year drivers to make that. Per diem is your allowance for meals and costs while on the road so you will get .10cpm tax free but some people rather not get it and just get credit for all of it at tax time(I don't really know which one is better) I perfer per diem.

I was asking about the 46k per year cause thats what trans am says first year drivers average.

Like I said you can do it but realisticly 35k-40k is more likely for your first year. That average is just that an average meaning some willmake lower and some who don't go home make higher.

Does KLLM go into Mexico? I know that Trans AM does not.....

Some of KLLM's trailers do go into Mexico, but no American company sends its trucks and drivers into Mexico. They have contracts set up with Mexican carriers to pull their trailers across the border. Canada is the only country that US drivers actually drive in.

hey losttrucker,
thinkin about trans am too, what is the home time like? recruiter said you stay out 12-14 days and get a full 2 days off. i.e. ask to be home # 2000 on friday, you get all saturday sunday and be ready for a load on monday, does that sound right? also said you can split up your vacation, true? also said they will pay your miles home and from home to pick up. does all this sound right and do they get you home when you request, ever very much later than you request? seriously considering this company, thanks for your help. you can pm me with the info if you wish.
