| I tell you, i'm a guy, and NEVER EVER would i have thought I would have gone out shopping on 'black friday'. (that is the day after turkey day, where most stores have crazy 50% sales, and have off the wall deals on electronics) I stood in line for 2 hours (actually REALLY GOOD) and got a $800 laptop for 400. I really wanted the sony viao they had for $300, but obviously those went right away. If you get one, you should get one with wireless. If not, get one of those Sprint USB connect cards. |

| Hay everyone! Well my last regular school update was just before the 4th of July. I hope all had a great 4th! I'm a pyro-technician for the Pismo Beach fireworks show and we had almost 100,000 people on the beach watching, needles to say we had a lot of fun! School is going well. I only have one more week to go and then on to orientation and out on the road with my mentor. Class these days consists mainly of Pre-Trip Inspection, on the road driving, and docking skills. The three main docking skills are Strait Line Backing, Ally Docking, and Parallel Parking. If you have backed a small trailer before, you should pick these up pretty quick! If not, don't get frustrated, just listen to you're instructor and practice, practice, practice!!! You'll get the hang of it! Parallel Parking is not the same as parallel parking a car! It ends up looking completely different! You're trailer ends up in a box that has only enough room for it, with you're tractor at a 90 degree angel to it. It's actually easier than it looks! Strait line backing is fairly strait foreword and most commonly used. Ally docking is backing the truck in a 90 degree turn with the back of the trailer ending up in a cone box or docking bay. This seams to give people the most problems! However, I's not to bad! I'm consistently passing my skills, driving , and pre-trip tests, so I'm feeling pretty good about tacking my DMV driving test next week! My wife called today to let me know the checking account was getting a little low, so I sure hope I pass it the first time!!! Well until next time, Polk Salit out! |

I never had any "alley docks" per se but I had a couple of docking situations in downtown LA where the alley docking maneuvering came in very handy (saved me wiping out a brand new Nissan that was parked in a "no-parking" zone directly across from my dock). |
