I just got news that my start date was pushed back til July 23rd...at millington instead of san antonio. I now have to get my cdl permit and dot med card in advance. my question is to anyone who knows the key things i need to study for my permit? I know the endorsements dont count at this time.

You need your knowledge, air break, combination doubles, and hazmat plus you need to retake your class c test as there will be no time later to take them. You will go from school right to a truck and a trainer also you need to do the finger print thing for your hazmat.

Study everything and test all if you can with it behind you you can move on to thinking about school. Good luck.

I second what 6pak4 two sed! You need to get the DMV hand book and study General knowledge, Combinations, and Air Brakes. If they are requiring Haz-Mat, don't be intimidated by all the numbers, It's mostly about safety and the appropriate paper work. But try to get a general idea of the rest of it. Also you will need you're drivers license and a social security card that's not bound in plastic. Hear in California, they didn't require Haz-Mat, but I took it anyway. I hope this helps!

Sorry to hear that Majik....Is there a reason why they changed your training? I called my recruiter to double check everything is still the same and they still have me slated for Aug 6 in San Antonio...weird..

I checked the webpage for MILLNGTN, TN and it does say a CDL permit is required,,,I dont mind i had been studying already. besides i will only be going 13 days in stead of 23. The only part that gets me stuck is the Air Brakes...boy am i havin trouble with that one. After what they went through with the school in Mlngtn, Tn that is probably safe to have students come in with CDL permit....makes a little sense.
GOOD LUCK GREENHORN TRUCKER KEEP IN TOUCH.

I am studying for my CDL permit too. If i go with Swift, ill be going to Lewiston, ID. I really want to go with MCT, but atleast i'll have a leg up having a permit. I found the CDL guide online, been looking at that. One thing i will tell ya, if i go with Swift, and they say "you will go to training on such and such a date"...then they move it, and move the location, i wont even go there. That is just telling me 'we dont have our act together to even get you into class..."

I think change in dates were them waiting for the TN location to open back up..not sure but seemed that way....besides TN is much closer for me i dont mind that change...just ready to get started.

To whom it may concern!
Well our class had a major wake up call last Friday! One of our fellow students whom has had a lot of previous driving experience, failed his DMV skills test! He grew up driving trucks for his fathers construction company, and he always does well in class, so we were sure he would ace his test the first time, but not so! The Ally Dock maneuver is what got him! Were not sure if the transition from a hard pack dirt lot at school to a paved DMV test lot was the problem, or if he just chocked! DMV can be a little scary! Needles to say, we will be practicing our docking skills with a little more intensity this week! I'm hoping that by observing his failure at DMV, it will cause us to focus on what we really need work on! I'm scheduled to take my test this coming Thursday! So for this week, it's lots of practice and prayer!!! Until next time, Polk Salit out!

Hay Majik Lady!
I was just thinking, if you're going for you're Haz-Mat endorsement, you may as well go for you're Doubles/triples and Tanker endorsements as well! It's really not that much more to study and I felt they were actually pretty easy! Having all the endorsements you can only makes you more valuable to the company and in turn could mean more money and job security! I have faith in you, I think you should just go for it!!!
