I'm glad to see you have made this far if you get a good trainer life will be fine as far as your family goes missing them will be a part of life. Look into a laptop computer with a web cam thats what my son and I do I have an aircard works well right I'm sitting in Winchester KY next to a Swift truck at the local T/S. Anyhow atleast with a web cam you can see your family as well as doing the messenger thing. Good luck on your journey.

i plan to do that. Might even have the webcam rolling out the front of the truck (once i am on my own that is) and people can stop in from time to time to take a look at what life on the road is like. I know, not a new idea, but i will have to refrain from reaching over to chat on the laptop.....could you just see that? Could see another "look what a stupid swift driver did"....thread...LOL besides, it would help keep you awake....

Hello all! Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers! The first day of orientation went well. I finished most all my paper work, took my company drive test, and watched a bunch of safety/procedural videos. So far so good! If all goes well, tomorrow night I'll be on the road with my mentor! I told SWIFT I don't care were you send me or how long I'm gone just get me on the road! They seemed to like that! I figure paying my dues starts now! I didn't decide to make a major career change, spend five weeks in school and orientation, and sacrifice time with my family to sit around the terminal complaining or dictating what I'll do when I feel like it! It's time to just "Git er done"! As a licensed contractor for twenty three years, I've had to work really hard most of the time to provide for my family, with little or no complaint, just happy to have the work! So when I hear people complaining or making demands right out of the gate, It makes me wonder if they truly know what a hard days work is or can appreciate not having to constantly find you're next job! I guess from my perspective, A bad day trucking, aside from accidents, is still better than a good day working in the trades! I'm blessed to be employed and ready to go! Polk salit out!!!

FYI
In my last post, I was mainly referring to some peoples comments and attitudes made at orientation today!

Hello all!
Today was the last day of orientation. This morning we saw a video on trucking accidents that was pretty graphic and truly sad! It really drove home how serious we need to take our driving! 80,000 lbs. of truck can do bad things quick! The instructors spent allot of time stressing safe driving and accurate log book keeping all for good reason! I guess I won't be leaving tonight with my mentor. Everything is ready to go except SWIFT hasn't received the pee tests back from the clinic yet. Tomorrow by 11:00am we'll know? I know mines good but it has to be official! They sed they have a mentor lined up so for now it's hurry up and wait! Hopefully my next post will be from the road!!! Until next time Polk Salit out!
