Hi everyone! Well It's official, I'm a SWIFT employee! I'm meeting my mentor in Fontana Ca. on Saturday night. Thats great because I get to be with my family tonight! I wasn't expecting to see them before I left from orientation so this is a big surprise! I talked to my mentor on the phone today and he seams pretty cool! We will be heading out Sunday morning. I can't wait to get on the road! My next post WILL be from the road! Until next time, Polk Salit out!

Great thread Thanks to everyone who contributed, but mostly to Polk for the training play-by-play. I am also looking to start training with Swift in the next few weeks. I'm changing careers also with this move. The question I had is my recruiter has me set to train in Phoenix. I asked if I could train in San Antonio because I plan to relocate to Texas soon. She said only if I get an address closer to Texas. Does anyone know if I train in Phoenix am I stuck with it as a home terminal or can I choose another terminal at hiring?

Also, you can go on their website, find a list of training centers, and that center will tell you exactly what you need to bring. |

Polk, What a great read! I enjoyed following your experience. Well done! Wondering what it's like out there on the road w/ a mentor. I am planning on relocating to SAC from Atlanta. I will have my CDL already. Do you think I'll be able to get a job at Swift? And was just wondering if you went to the TDA school, what other companies came by (if any) to recruit from the SAC area. Blessings to you my man!

Helloooo everyone, I'm a newbie to this forum, trunking and anything involved with the industry. Spent my life in manufacturing till the plant closed. No big deal, I was bored anyhow. I'm in my last wk of schl to obtain my cdl-a. Prior to starting school I went and tested out for the permit. 1st wk. tested out for the other rendorsements. At this time I have made no commitment to any Co. Where I live in the midwest (NW IN) I have the bigguys, Swift, Roehl, Sneider, CCX, ABF, Yellow, close to home. I know I will pay my dues no matter who I go to work for. I have been told by a driver who drove for Swift that they do have a topshelf training program. Maybe that will be the opportunity I will take to drive & gain the ever mentioned golden (NoAccidents) 1-2 years experience that will enable me to write my own ticket. Still thinking it through. This Forum is the BEST tool in helping me move down this path. Thanks to all for the time you put in to express your thoughts based from your expertise. Excuse me if I butted in on a thread I shouldn't have. If fine, my question is: Does Swift treat the Mentor-Student 42 day out like a team driver? My thoughts are to go 48/OTR to experience the big hills out west with someone sitting in the other seat verses doing it by myself. Thanks
