| Advice needed_i need to decide..... I need some advice from the pro's... I need to make a quick move to get my cdl then a job to save the house & credit. Here's my q... based on the economy, is it still feasable to earn 800-900 gross for a new guy and if so what kind of hauling would be the most stable considering company's closing ,etc. refrigeration? I'm located upstate ny , ....lockport ny... Any advice is appreciated. Thnks in advance.  |

| It is... Butit is going to take a while..It won't happen the first few months. 1st you have to get your CDL then you have to get hired on with a company and go out with a trainer for a while. The time spent with a trainer depends on the company and how well you can do the job. Also you have to be ready to run hard and not be picky some drivers don't want to run North East others just want to run regional and be home every weekend. The pay is not that great to start out but even at .30 a mile 3000 miles a week you can do it. 3000 miles a week is less than 500 miles a day not hard to do. Do your research before you jump into it. | I don't know what kind of debt you're looking at. But it can be done, if you're realistic about your expectations. And you are smart with your money. And even smarter about the choice you make of which company to hire on with. Stay away from the bad ones. This forum, while not 100% accurate for all people/companies. Is a very good reflection of how companies treat the majority of it's drivers. Living on the road cost almost as much, if not more, than living at home. You'll need to check this forum for cost saving tips. There are several post about these, use them. It can mean an additional $100-$300 in savings per week. Your credit is going to suffer, period. If you've gotten to that point now. It will be 3-6 months before you see any real return from trucking. By then, your credit will be toast. But it can be salvaged.

| Yep, check out the forums here, there's great info, and most of it is very relevant to what we drivers are seeking. Keep reading, and be discriminating in your decisions pertaining to where you want to work. It seems there's more bad companies than good now days! |
