This is funny, I have noticed there are a lot of people whom have went to this school. As many may have noticed, there are a s#$tload of schools out there, and they all really kinda suck, but as far as MTC goes, it's not that bad. At least the lot is paved, so you are not breathing dust all day. The staff is fairly O-K, and if you play your cards right, you can graduate within two weeks. You know that once you complete training, you will go with your resctive company and re-learn (forget) it all. but the main objective is to get your cdl, and that's all you really need!

My only problem with MTC is that I was told I can park in their lot whenever I come into town, but that apparently means only if you drive for an MTC sponsered company. As I paid for my own scooling, I chose who I wanted to drive for, so every time I go home and want to park there, it becomes a pain.

But all ion all, as far as trruck driver training schools go, it's not that bad. You could do worse. And you WILL get sick of Mike stating the words CRACKED OR BROKEN!

hey Mark...i'm considering MTC and then maybe going with Hogan or Star. Tell me a little about your expierence there and what was the cost, did you get get reimbursed? I live in WV, where would I go for training? How much money should I take for my living expenses? Sorry about all the questions just curious.

I went to MTC and though it was a joke. All the teach you to do is pass the test. It's startling how little the actually prepare you for what you're getting yourself into.

Did you expect your school to go out over the road with you?
All you pay the schools for is to teach you everything to get the cdl permit with all of the endorsements that you want, they teach you how to do logs, they teach you some of the rules and regulations, they teach you how to do the manuvers, they teach you how to drive the truck including shifting gears and then most are third party testers so they test you for your cdl when you are done.

What else should they do?
Your first training company should finish teaching you the rest of the stuff that you need to know.
All the schools are required to do is make sure you can handle the truck and trailer so you can get your cdl and a job.

The schools are not hand holders if you want to be a trucker then suck it up and be a trucker.

Trucking is not for everyone, it is not a paid vacation, you will not get rich off of it.
It is a hard job you will be tired everyday from having to watch out for other idiots out on the road.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I was speaking in general terms. I've been on the road just shy of 9 years now, I know what the job entails.

And if you wanna get specific, they should charge about 1000.00 for what they actually do, not 4500.00. And I don't want to hear that "where else can you get a career for that cheap". If they're gonna charge that much money the training should be a little more comprehensive, not just 14 days or less and you're out of here. When you go to school to be a Doctor, once you're out of school they don't give you a scalpel and say "get to cuttin'".

Would it be better to go to a training company like Stevens or Swift or even Snider....haha cant wait to here these replys!

I think they should only charge 1000.00 too but I did not pay for my schooling the county paid for mine through the wia program.

My schooling was suppose to be 3 -4 weeks but ended up going into 5 weeks had alot of idiots that could not get it because they never paid attention.
We had a day were we did not have an instructor but most of the class was already there before we found out that we did not have school that day so we all took it as a whole class study day.

My class ended up being punished a little because we had to take almost a week off before we could start the yard manuvers and the road stuff due to the itiots in the other classes. They had one that I belive they had to test 9 times before he finnaly got it.

i lookled at mtc 10 years ago when i started driving and financed the training thru Burlington , who i think is now out of business, i felt that A they were too expensive, B the instructors were unprofessional power trippers, and C the admin loses concern about u once u sign the line to pay. i did get trained at half their price bome where else got my cdl but that school had the same problems too. if IM paying to attend i will not have someone screaming at me if i screwup something . HELLO im learning. i noticed one particularly large gal working the yard who had an attitude to men no matter how u treated her. trucking is a male dominated profession. i felt most of there instructors were tired of the road , knew what they were talking about, but not good instructors or couldnt be on the road anymore due to playing cowboy out there and losing there license and were stuck at home teaching people for $10/hr. find the training as cheap as u can cause the schools r all the same .
