JB, SCHNEIDER AND SEVERAL OTHERS FREQUENTLY SHIP THEIR LOADED TRAILERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY BY RAIL FOR LESS THAN A DRIVERS DAILY WAGE. THE PAYOUT IS SEVERAL FOLD WHEREAS HE GETS HIS TRAILERS MOVED CHEAP, IT'S FULL OF DOLLS FOR WALMARTS XMAS RUSH AND HE COLLECTS STORAGE CHARGES FOR THE GOODS INSIDE. ONCE THE TRL. IS MTY, HE HAS HIS EQ, REPOSITIONED AT A PROFIT AND READY TO GO.

OH, AND IT DON'T TAKE 3 MONTHS FOR THE CHOO CHOO EITHER, WORST ONE WAY TIME I EVER HEARD WAS 30 DAYS. THE USUAL SUSPECTS IN A RAIL MOVEMENT ARE THEFT AND DAMAGE BY RAIL HANDLERS.
In most cases its a 4 to 7 day ride by rail. If its longer then its usually because of mechanical issues with the rail. Companies usually pay a flat rate based on what terminals the trailers are shipped to and from regaurdless if it is loaded or empty. But the most bizarre thing I saw was trailers (not JB Trailers) placarded explosives being shipped on the rail. (BNSF) I had to wonder if that was legal to do.

The difference is you will need to be behind the wheel 8 hours more based on a 50 MPH average where as you could be sleeping, watching your favorite program or being on here.

How is it running out of Green Bay, WI? Seen a job posting and I live only 42 miles north of Green Bay, said it runs loads out of Chicago and runs all the loads into Wisconsin, which SEEMS perfect for me, actually. Mostly to Milwaukee and up I-43/US-41, and to Madison, which I know like the back of my hand. Even mentioned Marinette, which is just next to Peshtigo. I've lived in those two towns my whole life.

The drop/hook pay and breakdown pay and whatnot seems waaaay better than what Swift provides. I don't get that many miles with them anyways.

You missing you driving less miles to make the same 840 dollars you would make driving for company b that is paying .35 cents a mile. Jb is the better offer.

But, it doesn't take long to realize that J.B. Hunt has almost perfected the future of trucking. See if you can stay with me, without turning this into a "JB suxs thread".

Despite the negative comments. J.B. has managed to be the leader in freight relocation. Offering customers needed options, which include long term storage of inventory, low cost, dependable delivery schedules, and a solid business model.

What J.B. has done for the driver...that's what matters to you the driver.

J.B. has reduced a once family unfriendly job, into a job the average Joe doesn't mind having. Setting trends that are cropping up industry wide.

While you can argue that making .42 a mile means little, if you only get 2000 miles a week. It beats the current industry model of 2400 miles a week at .35 a mile. Do the math.

Long haul companies, if you can call them that. Want you to stay away from home 14-21 days before requesting home time. While J.B. will set you up with enough freight, that insures you get home weekly.

J.B. business model includes benefits that all drivers want...but few drivers actually get.

If you sit down, and take the time to look at J.B. Hunt, and how they operate. You eventually see the future of trucking. And you'll figure out just how badly your company wants to get there, while retaining lower wages than J.B.

Take a good long look....and be honest with yourself.

JB still sux IMO. But, their business model is sound...and proven.
I worked for J B hunt it was good company til Mr hunt passed away. if you are a otr driver you will be out 14 days. and the CEO of the company said drivers are a dime a dozen. in a stock holder meeting. and he tratered us that way.

Thread started in 08,the driver was prob. fired for bumping a container. In 08 I pulled a reefer trailer 44.5 cpm 68mph loose leave log, 35 per stop, 13 stop loads. Net 1,000 to over 1,300 , a jb driver can,t gross 1,200 a week. I don,t know where he got a .32 for the industry average, way off man.

I have worked for JB and was a good comply when Mr Hunt was still living.
you will not start at .42 and the otr drivers out 12 to 14 days. the CEO was quoted saying drivers are a dime a dozen.

They don't teach people in orientation how to make money. What they don't tell you, on the OTR fleet, you aren't dispatched by a person, but by a computer. You have to keep the computer updated with the quallcomm on when you are going to be empty. If it doesn't know, the computer dispatches around you. Another example, empty trailers. If you don't have one, the computer dispatches around you. One Friday night I delivered my load at a Kmart DC just north of Philly. "Drop your trailer, no, we don't have any empties." I told the other guy to follow me, the East Brunswick yard is 35 miles away, we'll find one there. He refused, telling me he didn't have permission to drive that far, and was going to wait there until he had it. Now, I had been there 7 years at the time, and I tried to tell him that he'd be sitting there until Monday. I drove the 35 miles, and had a thousand mile load for Monday morning come across my qualcomm while I was outside cranking up the landing gear. I bet that guy quit within a month, and told all his friends how you can't make money at JB Hunt. You have to be a go getter, you have to know how to outhink the computer. You can't depend on the kids watching pixels back in Lowell. They are too busy getting yelled at by angry drivers.

That's the OTR fleet. The dedicated accounts are a lot different, but most drivers come out of orientation and go into OTR.
I am so glad I stumbled on this post. I just took the plunge and I start orientation in Dallas on Monday. I have heard all the nightmares and horror stories since 1991. I have noticed that over the years JB has taken the lead in this industry. Change is not always welcomed, especially when no one wants too. Face it. This industry HAS to change or we are all going to be broke.

Mr Mustard, you seem like a very intelligent person. I hope to meet you one day, so you can share your wisdom about JB. I try to be possitive in everything I do, but I am not naive. If any of you think the trucking industry will tollerate stupidity, carelessness, selfishness, and whinning forever then your driving days are numbered. Most of us (DRIVERS) need to change our attitudes and embrace the changes. This industry is weeding out the problem drivers. JB seems to be surviving dispite the horrible economy. If they put me in a safe truck and encourage me to be safe and legal while I take care of my responsiblites then I could careless what anyone thinks about my employer. The bottomline is this: You have to take responsibility for your decisions and actions! If JB is not right for you then move on, and stop crying about it.

The grass always looks greener until you start chewing on it.
