Aftershock What will you recomend a private school or a company school. I'm thinking I have to put the time in anyway at least 1 yr will like to make it longer. I dont like jumping around. But it looks like to get better pay you have to jump.

But I think the "best" thing to do all depends on what'cha CAN do. For some, a private school's tuition is out of the question, and a trainin' truckin' company would be their "best" choice. As long as the instruction is QUALITY instruction, I think either way could work. Quote:
IMO, if y'all can start with one of the BETTER trainin' companies, and remain there long enough to know HOW to work their system, y'all will realize that better pay as y'all progress up the pay scale at that company. WhY PLAN to job-hop if y'all don't HAVE to, --- just to start at the bottom all over again? Shoot for the ToP! The MAIN course --- NoT left-overs --- Or whatEVER they'll feed y'all. Are y'all SOooo anxious to enter the truckin' industry that you'll take ANYthang they dish out? OH! For the record, I, Shakey AfterShock think Swift offers pretty good trainin'. And I AIN'T sayin' Swift is the bottom of the barrel. ![]() Swift IS a large truckin' company with what I consider a high-ceiling to grow under their roof. And I encourge y'ALL to ask yourselves --- Is ToP dollar y'all's MAIN concern? Or is personal happiness and satisfaction factored into y'all's equasion? If y'all are HAPPY with a truckin' that MaY pay a tad less than what other truckin' companies MIGHT pay y'all --- WhY jump ship? Don't Worry --- Be HAPPY. That's MY motto. ![]() Keeppin' UPPERmost in mind that STRESS ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() is called the "Silent Killer".

You are right about that and I'm really leaning for Swift. I will let you know how it turns out. I think I have room to grow with them but I don't think I want to be o/o anytime soon and I don't know if they try to get you on a lease after a while. But out of all of the companies out there they sound good. Thank you.

Thank you Desert Son for your words of encouragement and I glad to see that you are not affraid to say that you have gone back to Swift after trying greener pastures that did not workout for you. I'm going to give Swift a try and hope to get to meet you in person out there in the road. Thank you

| I've been with Swift for almost two years (started Feb 2007) and I have never been pressured to lease a truck. The option is there, but it's not pushed on the drivers. Yes, miles are down. Especially for new drivers. But if you're willing to pay your dues, and stick it out, it's bound to pick up. It takes about six months for your miles to increase even in good times. Any company wants to see how you'll do on your own before trusting you with time sensitive loads. And it won't happen overnight. But if you do your job well, learn to manage your time, it will happen.

Thanks 1nonly. I needed some words of incouragement, I,m set up to go on the 19 to Tenn to Swift Training School, I'm going to give it my best shot and I know things are slow but at least I will be ready for when things pick up. I always wanted to do this and here I go making a dream come true even if is slow as long as I can keep rolling to get the exp.
