When are they expecting the Cascadia's in?
Are they getting them with APU's installed?
That would be a huge fuel saving combo right there.

Olde Goat. According to my math you have been with the Co. Three months now. How about an overall recap? T.I.A.

Well right now I am sitting at Bakersfield Flyin J. Highway 58 is shut down at Tahachape. Over all I think this is a good company to work for. I have no major complaints. I have not had a hard time getting home when I want to, even tho it is a little out of the way. They have made every effort to get me there when I wanted. The team miles are not quite what I expected, but they keep us running. AVG 4800 miles, to 5000 per week, of course freight is a little slow right now.Any load we pick up that can be run by a solo we either take it to a drop yard or swap out, to keep us moving. Our last week settlement was over $7000.00 and we netted $3200.00.
We have had our ECM re-worked so our MPG will be comming up which means more take home pay. Our DM is a great person and easy to work with. We have not been forced to take any load we did not want. I have been able to have all my PM's done on the road. Had my AC fixed(under waranty) at the Freightliner dealer while I was at home this last time.
Other than the small BS things that go wrong in the trucking business, my wife and I are very happy with JCT. I don't expect to pay off this truck or a new one if I get one, we are retiring in 2 years.

It is true that Freightliner claims the Cascadia to be more areodynamic than the Prostar. However, this is not my point for this reply. As any truck that is areodynamic, and designed to save fuel, will be an asset to an O/O.

The problem with too many wanabe O/Os is that they are NOT businessmen first, and a driver second. Many times wanabes will chose to be a lease purchase O/O (which I DO NOT recommend) based partly on the fact they can get a fast truck,or a KW 900, or a 379 Pete, or a Freightliner Classic.

While I agree these trucks are realy nice to look at, looks don't translate into money on the bottom line. Yes, there are exceptions to this, but I'm speaking about lease purchase O/O, or other O/O who may own their truck but lease to a company. Independents, or O/Os leased to a company, with specialized customers in a niche market are the exception.

While it is also true that the afore mentioned Classic Style trucks can get good fuel mileage, it is ussually done be an O/O that is willing to run SLOW, thus negating the areodynamic advantages.
I guess if your true to your plan then you will be shopping for a used Schneider / J.B. Hunt Columbia LOW payment warranty and you will actually own your own deal not be leasing. Considering you can have basically the same drive train in any make Internationals are junk. The performance of the cab of a International is #### compared to a KW or Freightliner.I work for a fleet that has Freightliner KW's and International Prostar's. Tell me why does the Prostar Windsheild Crack all on it's own after a rough road ......YES their so well engineered. 13 letter sh##t spreader rattle trap junk. If you want a truck to drive that holds up to miles, IT's not a International unless you want to hear every piece of the truck rattle when you hit the starter..

I don't now why you are holding back...tell it like it is
I agree with you, I wouldn't drive an International on a bet. My wife and I really liked our KW t-600, but just not enough space

LMB are the Cascadia's hard to get (waiting list) or are more becoming available. Due to fuel that would be my first choice but with style I like the w900's and the classic's. I fly to Tulsa on Saturday and start orientation on Monday so very excited and looking foward to the new adventure. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks alot

Lmb I have been enjoying your thread.Last fall my boss told me he was going to buy me a new truck. He had me try out a 2008 Cascadia.I did not care much for it.Lots of plastic. It had too much of a motorhome feel to it.
We bought a new 2007 4900 series Westernstar.Pre-emmisson 515 detroit.I love it.I am getting 6.5 to 7 mpg.
You may decide you like the Cascadia. It is a lot different than looking out at that hood on you classic. You may be more interested in the extra room in the cab.I am not real sure you will gain much better fuel mileage.
I wish you well

Olde goat are you moving down the road now? I'm right up the road from bakersfield in the central valley. I am thinking about making the switch to otr. I have to be honest and say I don't really want to from all that I've read, but at the same time, I'm running out of options. Be safe. I'm following this thread.

I think you've missed my point.

If anyone wants to survive in this penny pinching industry they must run efficent. That means an aerodynamic truck. It doesn't have to be a Prostar.

The problems you've stated about Internationals is NOT unique to them. Over my 24+ yr career as a driver, I've driven KWs, Petes, Freightshakers, Volvos, and Internationals. They ALL have their quirks and problems. It boils down to a matter of prefference.
