Only the best of the best. What a joke.Dont get me wrong.Id love to drive for Walmart. But a minor incident, bent landing board probably disqualifies me.Im one of the safest, best trained drivers on the road, and probably couldnt get on because of one minor incident.Ive watched Walmart drivers do some of the stupidest things Ive ever seen a truck driver do.Run red lights, try ridiculous backing angles on drops,I could go on and on.Obviously some were just lucky they never had anything nrgative happen to them. The best of the best,it probably helps to know a driver personally,of course be a good driver, not discounting that. But also to have had a little luck on your side as well.Lets not get carried away with the best of the best. There are plenty of drivers on the road with a misfortunate incident on there record that in my opinion are as good or better drivers, than the so called best of the best,LMAO.

You can apply on line, just google walmart careers. You will have to work your way thru the long registration process. I was a wal-mart yard jockey for 8+ years and now putting in my OTR time (even though I have driven OTR for 8+ years) recent 3 yrs required, so I can drive for them. Believe me its worth it! They pay is probably in the top 3 in the Country if not the best for company drivers. You may have to sign on where ever they are hiring at the time & then transfer back into your area after a yr.

Your right but working as a trailer jockey you worked in the warehouse or was attached to the warehouse . The politics of being a Walmart driver are far more than you know ...

Do you know the reason the hiring process was moved to online vs handled by the DC ?

I worked there 5 yrs but I promise you this ... Great Job ..
Great Money ... Great equipment ...

But end if the day when I got laid off in 2008 due to remix freight it was the best thing that happened to me it just took me a year to figure that out ..

    Profit sharing = gone

Insurance = family plan bout 275 a pay period but covers hardly nothing and a 1 year waiting period for scripts ...

Slip seating = you will not get a assigned truck till at least year 2 if your lucky mine came at end year 2 first of year 3

Weekends = you will never see one till bout the 5 yr mark. I forgot what one was unless I had vacation time to take and even then it's hard to
get one off cause freight flies to stores mainly on week ends

Safety bonus = changed ( but that may be a good change )

All I can say is good luck just not worth it to me to sacrifice life for a job
There are others on here ( former and some current WM drivers ) that will tell you the same thing

Best if luck but if I was happy where I was I'd double think it before I hired on and had to transfer over the country to get back to my home DC

Remix freight is why I got laid off , I'd prob still be there but honestly glad things happened threat they did

    Oopps !!!

I used to be able to avg about 1600-1700or so sometimes hitting 1800
Maybe slightly more in a week by extending my work week , my freind whom is still there says that stopped and he now is avg 1500-1550 on a 6/2 program ( but he has his own truck ) a new driver on a program
Prob a 6/3 or 3/2 shared truck programs avg would be

    1500 one week
    1200 the next

6/3 means really 5-1/2 on 3-1/2. Off so your earning drop

    3/2 would be worse that's
    2 - 5 day work weeks then 5-6 off
With 1.5 off between the other 2 weeks

How much current experience does UPS require. I drove for them yrs back on a seasonal position. Came off the road and worked a yard jockey job for 8.5 yrs and then got on hauling the US mail the past yr. Just lost that due to cutbacks within the postal system. Have 8+ yrs OTR but only 1yr recent with the yard jockey job in between.??

    UPS I'm not sure ..

I'd try UPSF ( UPS Freight ) the truckload division for UPS
I looked into them in 2008 when I got laid off from WM and the pay seemed good I just decided to go Tanker Yanker instead been doing that since my WM days

I bought a truck in 2010 doing better than I ever did at WM

UPS freight I think requires like 1 yr OTR

With UPSF you have your foot in the door for a UPS local opening if one opens up so that's a pretty good benefit to look at for the long term goal

I worked as a Wal-Mart yard jockey for 8.5 yrs and all the WM drivers I talked with loved the job and stated the pay was good. By the way the drivers out of the DC I worked out of in Florida got home most every evening, delivering to the various stores in FL & GA and a few in SC. I think some made a trip over into Southern AL as well. But they all loved it. I enjoyed my time there as a yard jockey as well and was well compensated for the hrs I worked. 3-12's & 4 days off every week. Hard to beat. Just got the crazy hair and decided to go back on the road so I could come back as a WM driver. Hauling the mail paid great as well. I have been considering the tanker bit myself lately. Can u give me the ups and downs of that job. I have an offer to drive one out of Texas for a Well drilling/blasting company. It pays great as well and home every night, but will have to relocate from Florida. Not sure I want to make the move yet. You are right about the health insurance for the most part, it is designed for catastrophic type illnesses. My wife had a stint put in her heart though and it paid $42,000
out of $45,000 which I thought was pretty good.
