They have a rule for everything, including the size of belt buckles that are allowed, cell phone use, using gps, the kind of shoes you can wear, and the list goes on and on. The book they gave my hubby on policies is like 500+ pages long.
See lots of people who violate these rules and don't have a problem with it. In general though, I like the professional image Schneider is trying to create.

I'm leased to Schneider on their Choice program and like it very much. Waterloo I don't mean to sound harsh, but you are your dispatcher. As long as I have been over here I haven't had to sit on a load for over three hours longer than what I need to. I have sat a day to get a bad load and that is my choice. I plan out about 4 days in advance and bring home after fuel, deductions (insurance and escrow), and normal expenses (eating, showers, and whatever) around 2000 a week. My mileages average around 2000-2500 a week. To be honest the load board and systems they have set up do work. I highly suggest you go to another company before you get to far into a negative attitude.

The gps rule is because very few gps units have truck routing software in them and Schneider doesn't want to be held liable for any damages caused by a driver using them. I have heard rumors that one of the new sat. systemsd they are considering does have a built in gps the they will use.

Unfortunitly all the rules have came about because of drivers being lazy, rude, and just plain unprofessional. I was very impressed with the company when I went through orientation. Since I have been here I have had only one minor problem and it was with a log, no biggie though. Before my switch I was not a fan of "mega fleets", but I am very proud of Schneider and the way they treat owner/ops. As far as the company driver side...I don't know much cause I keep to myself and keep the wheels turning.

Pulling you sound like you have your act together. That's some nice change you're hauling down. What type of down time do yopu give yourself and how is that governed by Schneider?
do you ever take a 2 or 3 week vacation? How often are you home?

Steve

Let me get this straight, you can't use gps, probably can't use cell phones either. Have to wear boots, when most of the time your driving your home. And unless your at the shipper receiver you should be allowed to drive bare feet IMOP.. You can't have long beards, no more than 1" or it needs to be cleaned shaving. You can't wear hats, and you must wear their uniforms am I right.. Well if their going to make me do all that, then the pay and miles better be worth it or they can but it wear the sun wasn't meant to shine.. BTW how would they know your using a gps, do they have drive cams in the truck..

Point well made. BUT, probably not that important to me because I spoke with a recruiter today and she indicated probably not hiring any "newbee's" as they will not be doing any training until after the 1st quarter of this year. Training starts in 2 weeks and relocating to the Charlotte NC area and had hoped to get a good shave and try on those fancy boots and toss the GPS (or hide it).

Many thanks to you and everyone that post on here. Have been a "lurker" only viewing for quite a while and finally decided to sign up and thank as many folks as I could. So once again, THANKS!!!!

I take off when ever I want. Matter of fact I was home from Dec 20 till Jan 4. There was loads on the board that I could of ran, but none of them was worth me missing Christmas with my wife and daughter. The whole time I'm home nobody from Schneider calls, emails, or messages me on the Qualcomm. I just let them know a couple days in advance that I'm going home so they can find a place for the empty trailer (if I have one on me). Then a couple of days before I decide to come back I just send in a macro 18 and then take the loads I want. Schneider can't say a thing ro me about going home. I know of a couple of guys that will spend a month on the road then a month or two at home with no issues. As far as home time...I try to get home every weekend, but with the economy the way it is I'm spending about 10 days straight in the truck then taking two to three off (or whenever the wife throws me back into the truck, which ever comes first).
