Trucking in the north-east..!?

There are a few. NEMF is the 800 lb Gorilla of the Northeast when it comes to LTL frieght.

Eastern Freight Ways is the truckload division of NEMF which focuses priamarily on the Northeast but does extend to Florida and out to Chicago Il.

There is a company called Webster Trucking which services C&S Wholesale.

NEW Penn and Ward Trucking have a pretty good customer base in Pennsylvania.

There are a few SYGMA truck terminals in the Northeast as well.

I am sure others will chime in with some more companies.

You forgot Pottles!!! NFI has a strong presence as well.

Not that I can cite examples , but from what I have read ( and I read about trucking well over a year before I got my CDL ) and been told LTL is the only way to make money in the NE .
If you are an OTR driver doing mostly NE Regional the miles are tougher to get than other areas of the country . Money however is a variable , what is enough for some might be poverty to others .
