Size Up on KAG (Kenan Advantage Group)

Looking to possibly apply with them or a local Tanker CO. I have all of my endorsements and Clean DR. plus 3 years Experience.

Any additional up to date info on KAG?? The existing posts/threads are not very informative or are also rather old. Any input, good or bad on KAG??????

I know a friend works for them and he's an o/o for them. They operate Macks Visions and Pete 385's. Also, they just aquired Transport Service Co, and some others. They mainly deliver gas for 7-11, Hess, BP, and other small companies.

I am a Gas Hauler for Eagle transport. Hauling Gas can be a bit of a pain in the you no what. It is not hard work but real easy to screw up. You are required to load/unload your own truck. It is not very physical though. I drive in Savannah GA, and a night driver
So I get $25 extra during the week and $60 dollars extra on the week end. All the major Gas hauling Companies are about the same

Hey Smoke. I'm training at Savannah Tech as I type. Seems like a decent program - instructors are a riot. I'm looking forward to finishing and getting my CDL. The instructors tell me that I will be eligible for all endorsements including ready to take the hazmat test when we finish up. What can I look forward to in the SAV? I really wanna do some OTR if possible

KAG in SOCAL is formerly BENETO Tank lines I worked for them. Good outfit you will have to go through a fair amount of training before going on your own the reason I quit was I got Tired if being a delivery boy and wanted to drive more typically you will do about 5 loads a night which means 10 stops because you deliver then have to drive back to the fuel rack to reload.
They pay an extra $1 per hour for night shift 12 hour shifts when you get back someone gets in the truck and runs the other 12 hours truck never stops. Insurance is fairly expensive about $260 a month.

Now the crappy part you will work 6 days on 3 days off and you can go through the calender and count 6 days on 3 days off and that will be your schedule forever ,Christmas ,Thanksgiving , 4th of July you name it your scheduled to work and that's it . Also Senority means nothing there you cannot schedule vacation for holidays because it is blacked out meaning no day's off. with a 6 day on 3 off schedule you will basically get one weekend a month off. Also when it gets slow you will get sat at home a couple of day's.

So all in all it's not bad and it's not great I just got tired of working weekends and holiday's. And being a 5 - 50 mile delivery boy...

In Southern Cal you'll be hauling SHELL , ARCO , and 76 .....Maybe some Chevron they used to have a lot of Chevron but have lost it to competitors.

Their Main Terminal In Los Angeles area is in Long Beach.... then they have other Sattelite yards.

Aspergerboy. You are right about the instructors at Savannah Tech, They are not the most assertive bunch. I went threw the night class 2 years ago, They said to be at class at 3PM and wouldn't take roll until 330 or 345. I didn't have no ptoblem with any of them I just couldn't stand being at class not foing anything. One of my sayings is if you don't have anything to do go home and do nothing. However if you have a question about trucking in general they will help You out.
Now as far as truckimg in Savannah, Savannah us the second largest warm water port on The Eastren Sea Board so that means rhere us alot of frieght moving in and out. Bottom line Savammah is a good place to be a truck driver.
If I had to do it all over again I would have gone with Schnieder Bulk. They have a very good training program

KAG continued...

Well what is Rookie/Start pay? Also, when you say, "Insurance is fairly expensive about $260 a month." What do you mean, health/liability or what, could you be more specific?

How long is training, & in brief, what does is consist of? Sorry for all of the questions but you seem like the right person to ask since you've worked for them. thanks.
