The sad part is that the people are being blamed for taking these loans out during the last 3 years. I think that alot of blame should be spread to the banks for making the loans in the first place. |

| If you give every tax paying american $20,000.00 a loaf of bread will cost $200.00. There is no way these greedy corporations, bankers and politicians will allow you to keep that money. |

| [quote=DoubleDear;773286]We pulled a lot of Government containers taking them to the Harrisburg rail yard and Norfolk VA. You see mostly JB Hunt trailers there at the yard. And I haven't seen many of their trucks like we use to, out on the roads. That's going to become the "New Trend" for the trucking Industry. Taking containers to the rails and have them shipped to California that way. There was a "Huge Right UP" in the Local Paper here, how the shipping of freight by trains, will be eventually picking up. There is a demand of workers at all the Rail Yards throughout the different states. I don't know if I still have the paper around where I can copy and paste it. Some of the positions, they will pay you 120 a day for a 6 week training. The conductors and a few other positions are paying $120k a year. __________________________________________________ ____________ I know they advertise that 120k a year but don't think you can hire on and make that kind of money, because you can't. The only Railroad I know of that even comes close to that for a new hire is Canadian Pacific (CP) they have a different contract than the rest of the Railroads and Conductors are guaranteed 100k or close to it. At CSX the only guys that come close to 100k are the old guys that hired in before 1986. They are considered protected employees and make the big bucks. New hires do get paid for training and it lasts for six weeks in Atlanta Ga. I worked a total of nine months and grossed 27,000. You start out at 85% of what top pay is. The reason I went to the Railroad was for the retirement. Once you get five yrs. in you are vested and it gets you out of the Social Security System. Another reason I went there was they absolutely do not discriminate against age. If you are what they are looking for they will hire you. The lifestyle is similar to trucking except you get more home time as a conductor even more if you are a Carmen. The drawback is that you are on call 24/7 and you really can't plan anything at all. So if you want weekends off pick something else to do. Bill |

Yeah, NOBODY WOULD BAIL ME OUT ! No Banks or even Loan sharks would give us a Loan. If we couldn't pay our taxes? How would we pay the Loan? Yet, if the Banks get Bailed Out and the Auto Industry Gets Bailed out, and if they screwed up once, how do we know? It won't happen a second time? Wildbill : If you go onto ConRails website, there it will post, all the positions that are open., for whatever state and area you're seeking. And there's quite a few of them. For each position, they explain in details about the training and what that position pays. But you're right, no one gets into a top position ( like a conductor) right away. But the Rails do pay decent., and the hours are long and on call . Here , from our Local Paper, there was a big write up on , how Conrail needs many employees to fill positions. And if they couldn't find enough workers here, they would have to move to another area, where there are more workers. I'm Saying,,In the Past, we put them out of business and now The Rails are Taking Their "Rights" back again. They will again be flourishing, rather than the Trucking Industry. Quote:
ha, ha, ha, I'm a female! Local work was hard to find, moving out here in the boonies. I applied as a dispatcher. I know all the ropes and experience with that (and much more). Never heard from them. Last edited by DoubleDear; 02.06.2009 at 05.45 PM.. |

| DoubleDear Try CSX or Northfolk Southern. I know at least four women that were hired as Conductors and and two that moved up to Yardmaster about a year after they hired on. The Railroad really doesn't care what your sex is as long as you can do the job. They have people furloughed right now but if freight picks up they will start hiring again. They look for certain things on your application. I interviewed with North folk Southern and I was sure I got the job, but didn't. I didn't understand why I wasn't selected, I made myself look really good on Paper. So to make a long story short I did some more research on the Internet and came across a book titled " How to get a Railroad job" It goes into great detail on how to answer certain questions. All Railroads ask the same questions, and knowing what specific answers they are looking for will increase your chances greatly. After reading the down loadable book I applied for CSX and was hired after my first interview. I checked the Conrail web site about a month ago but I will check it again, thanks for the heads up. |
