| What you need to decide is what you want to do with your driving career, for example tanks Flats or box. When I first got my CDL I wanted to haul gas, You need 1 year experience to be a Gas Hauler so I went with a Tank Company that would hire me right out of school. Hope this helps |

Sounds like you are in the Y'town to Cleveland area. FCI (Freehold Cartage out of New Jersey) has a Cleveland terminal. I think they hire newbies. There CPM for new hires (experienced or fresh meat) looks pretty low, but the accessorial pay will get you to $50K without much trouble. Go into the tanker side if possible. Family owned and good people. Plus you don't need to park the truck at their terminal, take it home, or leave it at the nearest truckstop. |

They have had truck routing gps systems for a few years now just all depends how much you want to spend and what brand you want. I personally would not worry about a gps system until you get a couple of months under your belt doing your own routing. Just A sugestion but what I did was buy a pack of index cards and wrote down the routing that came aross the qualcom. then went to my laptop and cross referenced it with mircosofts streets and trips. Then called the shipper to triple check the directions into them that is if there is a phone number..lol. After that I would use the other side of the index card and repeat the process for the reciever and include any fuel stops. Then you can take the card clip it to the dash so it is easy to look at along your journey. No need to be second guessing yourself in rush hour chicago traffic. Once your done you can save the card for future referance. Another tip is when you call the shipper or reciever do not ask the person answering the phone for directions ask for there shipping n recieving department. Unless they are small and the person answering the phone is also the S n R department. The reason being is the person answering the phone will give you directions to where they are and that might be a half mile away from there S n R department. |
