Effective today: they're pulling compnay drivers into Terminals to turn down the trucks to 62 MPH.

They say this will save .3mpg, and fuel is the #1 cost, so they need to save .3 mpg and get idling down under 30% will save them money. I believe the amount they quoted was it would save 75 gallons per truck per month.

Personally I find it a little ominous, and don't see why they didn't work on idling before they turned the trucks down, but I'm not in a position to know all the inner workings. I don't think I'd want to be either.

1st day at Central Ref.

Started the Central driving school today & it wasn't too bad. I have never had to sign so many papers in my life, my hand still hurts two hours later. We lost about four guys in about the first 2 hours why?, I don't know... But they had a long wait for a taxi back to the hotel to get their stuff. The "Work well physical" was a little different then I was prepared for. 75 lbs. above the head 3 times was a little harder then it sounded, but most in the class young & old didn't have a easy time with it.

Orientation starts tomorrow for the drivers with CDL's & people with CDL permits, so since I have my permit already I get going a few days sooner then most of the other people in the class. Hope everything go's easy for the rest of training, I will keep the updated as best I can.

I was suppose to be there...

Hey Brickman 81,

I was suppose to start in that class with you yesterday. My fiance got really sick early Saturday and ended up in the hospital. I couldn't leave to go to school and now am trying to reschedule for May 5th. Keep us posted on how the schooling goes...I am a little more than curious... Also interesting how you lost 4 in the first couple of hours. I wonder why? Maybe drug or physical failings?

While I can't say that it was drugs for sure, I can say that two of them fit the bill for having a ''Shady'' sounding past.

Today was 2nd day of orientation & went by without any problems for anyone in the class. Mostly watching videos & doing a little more paper work. Also got into the drivers handbook a little & will do so again tomorrow morning, we will also be going over the log book heavily for a couple of hours. Its only going to be a half day for some, a little less then half the guys will get trucks & head off by midday & the rest of us (CDL permit holders & Refresher takers) will start our yard practicing around midday as well. I have been itching to start getting behind the wheel, it will be nice to start getting some real seat training.

Brickman88,

I'm glad it is going well for you.

It is bringing back good memories for me.

I was adopted by Central when they bought Dick Simon. You will still notice some of the Simon logos on older things, like service trucks and stuff like that.

Please keep the updates coming.

As a matter of fact I saw a Central trailer today that you could see where the old Simon logo had once been.

Today was the 1st day we went by the Fontana terminal. Didn't get in any driving today, took to long to get some of the guys to get their paper work fixed. Tomorrow we get going at 6am so I'm out for today, got to get some sleep.

Is the Fontana terminal still a dirt lot, or have they paved it yet?

Look around for some old HOT ROD and CAR AND DRIVER magazines. I cleaned out my truck while trying to kill some time, and I left them in the driver's lounge for others to read.

Hope things are going well for you. Please keep the updates coming.

rather have it dirt than a big pothole like in the Dallas terminal. A huge pothole is right at the entrance to central's area and there are signs saying do not drive over as it might do damage to your truck. You practically have no choice as it pretty much goes across the whole entry way.
