Every time I have been to the SLC terminal the shuttle driver has been a driver thats truck is in the shop for a few days, they will pay an owner op to drive it, becuase they dont get layover pay.
Another good way to make money as an owner op, when your truck is down is to go get trucks for them that are left in various places around the country. It pays 100 dollars a truck, plus milage.
This way if your truck is down for a few days (or a week) you are still making some money. They will get you to the truck by bus, plane, or whatever is needed.
I have picked up a few, and it is better than sitting.
Allot of these trucks are ones that needed major engine work, so they got the driver another truck, and they left theres at the shop. I picked up my first truck this way, it was in VA.
I never go to the SLC terminal anymore. Kraft does not run that far west. Unless you are in the Dallas fleet. But they are mostly regional also. -
Ok, Sorry i haven't posted in a while, but the last couple of days have been really busy for me. 6pak i will give you a ring in the am when i get to the shippers. Where to start, I have a new 387 Pete. I finally got everything settled and in order and i am now on the road as a O/O. I went thru both Utah and Nevada without a Plate only temp paperwork it will be about 30 days until i get the perminate documents and plate. I thought for sure they would pull me in but at the Nevada Scale they told me my truck was to new to Inspect and told me to get out of the line and have a nice day. Its hard to get a ticket in my red truck when i only run 62 to conserve fuel. I met my dispatcher the day i got assigned my trainer. Usually the same dispatcher your trainer has becomes yours if you and your trainer' s home terminal is the same otherwise your dispatcher will come from the area your home terminal is. Yes i in courage you to go and meet your FM. you will in time get to meet the load planners but keep in mind they are really busy. The FM's are easy to talk to. they are not behind any locked doors. I visit mine every time i am in Salt Lake and some times call just to see how her day is going. Key piece of advice run all loads you get try not to refuse a load and be on time. Communicate with your dispatcher and you will go far. Try and foster a good relationship with your FM. My FM takes really good care of me so I will help her out anyway i can. I got to meet Juniper, He is a great guy. He also had the oppertunity to check out my new Truck. So Far he has been doing well. I hope to run into him again. he was in class so i didn't get a chance to say good bye. So if you are reading this it was really good to meet you david and i hope i get a chance to meet all of you who post here. well time to get some sleep i have a early morning ahead of me. I will try and update more now that i am back on the road and try and give you all the perspective of the O/O side of the house. JJRanch AKA JJ Truckin.
