Just a quick comment on your training question. If you get a trainer that isn't doing his job, don't be afraid to fire his butt. One of the problems with these training companies is the trainees that allow / settle for a pizz poor trainer. Don't allow some loser trainer to shortchange you out of the training you deserve. Try to avoid a trainer that is an L/O or anyone running a dedicated route. Just my thoughts, but a lease driver is more than likely training for the extra cash to make his truck payments. And the deicated guys are running the same route day in, day out. I'd rather be training with someone that runs OTR and learn the lifestyle. I think there will alot missed by running the same route with a dedicated run trainer. Good luck to ya! Jim |

| How to "fire" a trainer If I wanted to get off one trainer's truck, I'd call my driver manager and explain the sitution. If that DM is reasonable, I should get good results, meaning I will be taken off the offender's truck and placed on another's rig. A DM's response in a situation like this says a lot, in my view. If I get a reasonable response (assuming my claims are reasonable), I would know that in the future, I'd have few problems. If that DM gave me the run around, I would take that as an affront and start looking around for another outfit. If an insider is going to give you BS when you're training, you can bet your bottom dollar he'll give you BS later when you're running on your own. If the BS starts, start looking for another company. At least that is what I myself would do today. Good luck.

| For you guys looking for a company that will get you east of Albany to get home? Why don't you try Marten Transport. You had mentioned C.R.England and Central, so I'm assuming you want to remain with a Refer Company. Marten will give you good miles, if you're willing to work hard and bend a few rules once in a while. I've also heard they have an excellent lease deal, but I never got involved with that aspect of the company. I was a company driver with them for over a year and a half, loved every minute of it until I got involved in an auto accident and was terminated. |

Aren't they paying empty miles? How many miles are you driving and not getting paid for, on average? What have your paid miles been averaging per week? What have your paychecks been averaging? Thanks! |

| So far, so good Earth, thanks to your posts and the posts of a few other drivers, I have to say if I were looking for a driving job, I'd check Central. They seem to be good enough to go with. I'd also check Knight, the Swift spinoff based in Phoenix. They may be worth it, too. The only problem I have with Central is the fact they deliver to Hunt's Point Market. Been there, done that. But never again.
