I'll go ahead and tell the whole story, and I hope I don't bore anybody to sleep:

I started driving for Simon on September 12, 1998. I was assigned a tractor with 660,000 miles on it and it was the first truck I ever drove with air conditioning. I thought I was in heaven!!

Central bought us four years later. During the transition, I got a qualcomm that said, "you have been assigned a brand new truck. Next time thru SLC you can pick it up." THere it was, my brand new truck, with the plastic still on the seats. It was a thing of beauty and it was the last shipment to have the SWEET SIMON logos on it, even tho now all the trailers had Central Logos.

I'll never forget fuelling that truck up the first time. The cashier asked how many miles and I said, "42". SHe said "42 what? Thousand, million, what?" and I grinned from ear to ear and said "42 miles total" I felt like king of the world.

Fast forward 2 years and I recieved a message that I was going to upgrade to a new truck again because mine had been sold. I brought my truck to SLC and asked what they were going to do with it. They said they were selling them to a dealer for $20,000 each.

I about cried! My truck that I remembered being brand new was going to be sold for $20k? I said, "I'll buy it and go local with it" Central said, "Okay. Here's the name of the dealer." I bought the truck, drove it back home to Colorado, and I still run it.

That is my story of how I started at Simon, went through the bankruptsy, and was adopted by Jerry Moyes and Central Refridgerated.

I always came in at the tail end of all these events, and that is the reason for my screen name.

Hope you enjoyed the story,

Lastkidpicked, Still Driving Simon (Central) tractor 1357.

Thanks, just want to know some of the folks I may be working with and look forward to meeting down the road.......

If anyone reading here ever sees a Black Volvo with Buffalo Sabres magnets on the sides, just say hi. I think I am the only one in the company with them. So I am easy to find.

Actually, Central guarantees hometime. Now, we all know you don't usually make it, but at least if you're not home by midnight of the first day you're supposed to be home, you get paid for it. It's only $40 a day, but it's something.

Dunno if I want to spend 4 weeks out on the road with a strange man.
They will try and train teams together. When I went in for orientation, they told my co-driver and I that because we wanted trained together, and were non smokers, they were having a little trouble locating a trainer. They managed it before orientation was up, but they discussed having us train separately for 2 weeks, then spend the last 2 weeks with a trainer together.

In the end it didn't matter, my co-driver dislocated an ankle 6 days out on the road, and was put off the truck, so I was left with my trainer. He was a guy, so it was a little odd, but he was also grandfather age, so I felt reasonably safe.

You get two requests with a trainer: you can request a trainer of the same gender, and one with the same smoking preference you have. That's it. However, if you're uncomfortable with your trainer, you can ask for a new one. Sometimes you have to wait a few days at a terminal til one shows up for you, but everything has a price.

Smadronia, thank you for clarifying the hometime. You stated it better than I did.

Hunter, Thanks for your interest. I'll post a few pics after I find a 13 year old kid to show me how to upload them.

Rodeoman, No strikers here. And good for your Dad, I hope he continues to rack up the miles.

Quick update........Right now its 8.15pm and we at Tulsa OK Flying J for the night. We delivered Friday Morning at the Caves in Carthage Missouri, interesting experience if you like being underground.
Then after we delivered there we went to Joplin and grabbed a shower, Breakfast and did the Laundry, grabbed a few hrs sleep and then went to Pryor OK to pick up a Gatorade load......We are a little over 79000lbs and we deliver in Longmont Colorado on Monday a lot of spare time on this load
The Pete is getting better fuel mileage then we expected held 7.0mpg for a while and its now back to 6.7 which still isn't to bad for a new Truck.
Anyway time for me to do some work I have a heap of stuff I have to package up and ship out.

Who are you working for? How many miles are you getting? What do you think of their school?

Were are the computer network connections everyone is using to write on this forum? I've asked a couple of recuiters and their Quailcoms are not set up for us to use.
