Glass can be quite a puzzle at times...especially when its multiple sizes of uncrated glass, you have to watch out or you wont be able to get any securements on some of it...and that is BAD.

It has to go from tallest to shortest (tallest inside) and even then you may have to "engineer" something to get some pressure on the outside packs ("stoces" they are called).

One other thing...glass is one thing that you have to be very careful not to overtighten the straps. The first time that trailer twists in a turn the glass will break under the straps if they are too tight...EVERY TIME.

The straps only keep the glass from bouncing up or falling over off the trailer...they don't need to be real tight to do that...just snug. Stops built into the trailers (on some models) or wooden stop blocks nailed to the floor stops forward motion...and you want to have these about 1-2 inches away from the glass when you load it. (leave room for padding...styrofoam, rubber, honey comb, whatever)

Most loads are pre-loaded. You still have to check the securement on the load and tighten the ropes and apply bungees to the tarp on a pre-loaded trlr. I average 1 live-load of glass per month over the last 10 months. There r a couple of live load plants and alot will depend on where you ended your last run if your close to one of them or not.

Since the first of the year I've averaged 1991 paid miles per week. It would be somewhat higher if I excluded the first quarter of the year.
Generally speaking you'll spend more time breaking step decks and flatbeds down from glass mode to back haul system freight.

You get paid $20 for tarping a load. Checking the securement, tightening ropes, and applying bungees does not constitute tarping a load. You actually have to tarp the load yourself (just wanted to be clear).

You also get paid $20 to break down a trlr from glass to system mode. Getting an air gun (your expense, but tax deductible) significantly reduces the time required to do this. You also get paid $20 to set up a trlr into glass mode, but I've only had to do this once.

i drive for maverick glass divison now. In oct it will be a year i like it. Like bookerz said most trls are pre-loaded.if you did hh this glass will be ez. A buddy of my who drive for mavrick too is on his way out to calif. So we get the miles too.

Thanks Windjammer80 Thats what I was hoping to hear. I live in northwest Indiana, so I'm hoping this is a good area. How many miles are you getting with it being slow, and with you living up state ny are you getting home? Dont know the glass business yet so really dont know where shippers are and delevery points.

hi Maddad56 ibeen getting about 1700+ a week,and get home every two weeks. We haul from plants in IL,NC,PA,OK,TX,NY,SC. We del all over the USA , CANADA. We have qualcoms in the truck so if u need direction just punch it in and two sec later their it is..AND GLASS FREIGHT IS PICKING UP

In order to get it. I had to stay out an extra week. It was voluntary and no harm no foul if I had said no. But I've never been to CA before and the miles and scenery would be interesting so I took the load. Other than this week I've been home every 2 weeks without fail.

No fridges...buy your own inverter (has to be at least 1000 watts) and the kit to install it, pay Maverick to install it ($250 I think...and when you switch trucks they will move it for free)

Auto shifts have their ups and downs...I prefer a manual tranny, but I didn't pay for the truck so its Mr.Williams's decision.
