I have come to the conclusion as to why 'reefer' companies pay better than dry...

It is a very very tough aspect of trucking...I used to run with Marten...and reefer is

hard on a person.

My worry with W/S is I have just been down in south Texas for the past week....its hotter than heck...90 degrees at 1:00 am ...108 in the day....140 inside the cab....etc

Where i work now...we have tiny APU's...which help but dont do much above 90 degrees outside temp.

W/S having no APU's would require a driver to idle the truck all the time he is not rolling just to not have a heat stroke....do you reckon W/S is aware of things like this?

I would not want to hire on and start being barked at about extreme high idle times...

I really want to blow off WEL and run with W/S but this worries me..

WEL is offering .40 cpm....W/S is only .36.... but for some reason my gut tells me W/S is a better outfit.....its just my 'feeling'...

WEL somehow reminds me of Marten...and I did not enjoy my time with the Big Blue Bird at all....other than getting to see the great western area of the USA

What do you guys think of the situation ?

Mev from what I understand is they use common sence from what jim has told me. Now dont quote me on that because I dont work there yet. If its 100 out run it if its 60 shut it off. Im in the same boat as you just trying to figure out which way is best!!

How perfect of a record do you need for W/S ?

I have 2 dings that are over 3 yrs old...but Marten gave me a discharge

back in December.

Other than the Blue Bird thrashing me...My Motor Vehicle record is spotless.

No run ins with the law...the DOT...or anybody for that matter...the WEL lady said it looked as if I didnt exist in the public record!!

Well Mev not to be nosey but what are your two dings? Put it this way I was a owner operator for Transport America and had two cars roll over infront of me in WI and I jack knifed to avoid the accident. I didnt touch or hurt anyone besides myself. State trooper said I did a hell of a job trying to take my own life and not anyone elses. TA fired me about a month after accident saying it was a preventable. A Jack knife there no matter what is a company policy for termiantion. They screwed my dac and 1st accident ever,no tickets,no late delivers or nothing. Thank God I found W/S they are the only ones that will look at me. So If you dont have anything like this on your dac I think you would be ok.

1)Had a trailer brake malfunction...'drug the' tire...and it blew up...they said
I should have acted sooner and also they made me buy a tire.
2) While backing I put about a 1 inch 'ding' in a stairway handrail...guy charged company 125 to spray paint it back to its original yellow color!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those 2 are over 3 yrs old.
3)Marten...clipped a trailer...scuffed it up and it needed repair...they can me since I was there less than a year...Marten shows no mercy during your first year for accidents.
I think they would look at you. Just keep on Jim he is old school and you need to show him you want the job. The best days to get a hold of him are monday and tuesday. wed,thurs,friday he has orientation. They seem like good people. I live about a half hr north of minneapolis/st paul and they have yard about 30 miles from where I live. Just be honest with Jim and I think he would take ya
