Western Star Transportation

I thought i would give out some info on this company while documenting my time here since i could not find a whole lot of info before i started . Western Star Transportation is a refeer company out of Carson,Ca with a office somewhere in Mn , They run about 200 trucks and 230 trailers , starting pay is .36 a mile with $35 pickup / drop pay (which is paid in cash) also per diem of .10 per mile . there health ins. is decent with about 5 different options . trucks are T600,T660,W9 also western stars and some peterbilts all the T600 and T660 have studio sleepers , trucks are goverend at 70 . I am not sure on there hiring area I live in Ga and I know they will not hire out of florida . Hometime is 10-14 days .
I will also try to update this as much as i can , i am waiting to start my last day of orientation is it 2 1/2 days long they will fly you out here from wherever you are from to CA , the first day I got out here about noon there time filled out some paperwork and went to the hotel , The second day was more paperwork and videos . the safety guy jim and dino are pretty laid back in the office just use your common sense and i think you will be okay for the most part and don't do anything stupid . well i am getting my truck this afternoon and getting a load out of here so i will try to update this weekend

Hello,
I also have put in my application with Western Star.
Called today and they said they were 'running my DAC'
Dont know if that good or bad.
I been trying to get on with these guys for some time.
If they shoot me down I will just try them again in Jan or so.

sitting in atlanta waiting to get my last drop off , As far as jim telling you there waiting for your DAC they told me the same thing took them three weeks to get back to me , my suggestion is to call jim every day or so ,so he sees you want the job he is old school in that aspect . there orientation is pretty laid back about 2 1/2 days long about 5 videos your first day they will give you three folders with papers in them to sign and fill out . second day is some videos and maybe road test , friday is meeting payroll , dispatch , going over the handbook, etc.ect. getting your truck which i got a 2007 W900 burgendy , I am not positive on there hiriring qualifications , i do know they are having a hard time getting trucks to give out which is good means not alot of turnover i guess

Check out the company on the DOT website. They are on "conditional" status. Not good. Be prepared to have a lot of one on ones with the DOT.
