If you like to sit around truckstops and shippers DO NOT apply here. If you DO NOT like to work hard, and run DO NOT apply here. If you DO NOT like tons of drop and hooks DO NOT apply here.

Basically if you are used to running long cross country trips with 7 days on them, getting 2500 miles a week and think its good then you will suffer here. You can run all the miles you want, but its hard work. We do a lot of shorter runs of 400-700 miles and its not unusual to have 5-6 loads in a week. Most of it is drop and hook but not all of it. We do quite a bit of FedEx so best have your HazMat if you wanna see those runs, they tend to be lighter and usually pu/del same day. We also do dog food down to Phoenix and then PetSmart store deliveries in Colorado on the return trip. Budweiser out of Ft Collins. Food products out of the Omaha area to everywhere. You get the picture.

Within 6 months time you will have probably seen most of the places we go, and know the procedures at those places. Its nice to know what to expect.

All companies have their issues and Hill Bros has theirs but I am much more tolerant of the occasional BS when I am cashing a decent check every week. I generally run 24 days out and a week off, and that is my choice to do it that way. I make enough in the 3 weeks that I don't need the 4th week.

I am an owner operator for them, but they do have a realistic lease/purchase program that can be completed. Jim can share his numbers with you on that point. I am happy with them overall. Like I said, the main point is that you work and there is no lack of work. Be proactive and use your head. Loads with too much time can often be dropped at a yard and you can run with something else. Your success is up to you, so be proactive.

I would recommend them as a solid place to work.

I'm hanging out in bomb-drop central Chicago tonight next to one of the stinkiest chemical plants I've ever had the misfortune of finding. Got a load of meat for a storage place up the street for tomorrow morning, assuming I don't gag a maggot first.

Good post up above, hits all the various relevant points about HB in my book.

I think you can park on site at that particular receiver.

    Hey Jim,
My name is Roy. I just joined the t report and read some of your blog about Hills b. My son just started with them driving teams. I was wondering, would there be any way to work for them out of Tucson. (120 miles se of phoenix, az) So far I've only heard good stuff about them and to be able to go home more than I do now would be a blessing.

    Hi Roy,

We do pull a bunch of loads out of Phoenix and I know we've hired folks from there (Phoenix, that is) so I would think so... but I'm just a driver. My advice would be to call HB and speak with Erin in recruiting. She has the official hiring map memorized or stamped on the inside of her eyeballs I think.

    Good luck,

    Jim
