Everyone's body is different. I have some skinny friends that eat a lot more then me and never put on any weight and I eat less and it likes to stay with me. I am a big guy and would like to kick the #### out of the guy that come up with this BMI crap and I am big enough to do it. lol. But seriously the government throws these recommendations out their, company's get scared and say we have to do this and it is sad. Like I said I am a big boy but not a slob like a lot are. I don't wear sweat pants, I don't have elastic straps to tie my shoes, my t-shirt is not two sizes smaller and has food stains all over it, I don't park at the front door and my pants are not hanging around my knees when I walk. The way the chart looks if you 20lbs over what they say you should weigh you are obese. I looked at one chart and they said my normal weight should be 160 to 170, are they nuts. I got down to 230 one time and looked like I had been on a Ethiopia diet.

I go to my regular doctor every 6 months and get a check up and I do not have any thing wrong with me except my weight, but I know one of these days that will change and I will have problems. I do have sleep apena and was tested about four years ago but I can not stand to have anything on my face (well their is one thing but we won't go their) so I never use the machine. Who knows what the future will bring. I am on a diet because I want to live longer.

One more thing my last dot physical was taken at the Concentra Clinic in Little Rock, AR last year and are these doctors that work at some of these clinics barley make it out of school. The so called doctor that came in and did the so called physical was very obese and laid against the counter and was trying to catch his breath while filling out the paperwork and just reeked of cigarette smoke, it was so bad I started coughing. I did ask him if he was okay.

The Goverment is coming, the Goverment is coming!

They are going after the fat people so what is next? We have so many freaking regulations it will drive you nuts. One of these days they will say your to skinny and force fat foods down ya.

Ok, so they gave me a 3 month card. If I stay compliant they will give me a 1 year card at the end of 3 months.

Ive had the machine for a week. Kind of annoying having something strapped to your face, sometimes uncomfortable. Once I fall asleep, I dont even notice it.

I was told under the circumstances that a driver would be pulled off the road for one month to verify compliance, but our company and a couple other trucking companies have set up a "protocol" with Wellpointe who runs the sleep lab.

First 7 days I had to call in and read off the measurements from the machine... Average use has to be above 4.7 hours a night/day... only 4 numbers... humidifier use, total hours used, hours/day, I have no idea what the last number means but it fluctuates up or down between 130-230 so far.

The machine came with 2 memory cards... each 30 days I have to send the card into Wellpointe in a pre-paid envelope... They download the info and insure that I am using the machine. I stay compliant they notify my doctor and I get my 1 year card.

The point of contact Ive called the last 7 days informed me they are working on getting card readers installed at a couple different truck stops and in the future we wont have to go the postal route.

So the arrangement set up through the company is about $1900 dollars total for the test and equipment (if found not to have apnea the test is under $200)... payroll deduction at $55 per week, no intrest... unless you quit.

I only missed the one day and night I had planned for the physical and I was back on the road. It is what it is, I keep my job, and Ive got my DOT card.

I'll bet over half the people in the country snore and most sound like they are gagging at one point or another. This is getting a little ridiculous, what's next regular bowel movements ? How they going to monitor that ?

sleep apnea is a sever sleep disorder, when i went for my study (voluntarily) i stopprd breathing 90 times per hr. not a misprint. i use the machine every night. this is not a drug company disease. and it is not just a fat guy disease

Aside from having the opportunity to continue as a driver, what other benefits have you noticed from the CPAP machine? I used to be about 50lbs heavier than I am now, I snored like a pig and was always tired. I'm thinking I might have had sleep apnea. I hope it doesn't happen but I've heard a lot of new drivers talk about gaining a lot of weight so I might find myself back in the "snoring and tired" mode once I get out there.
