Thank you for this site & you all have my up most respect. Independent Consultant for 20 years & would drive to assignments nationally in car of course. Would trail the truckers & sorry bout that but not too closely & they seemed OK with that as I would let them in through traffic etc.
Think I am losing it as turning down work in my field (not wise) & looking into trucking. Actually have a company that will work with me that I respect as this forum enabled me to sift out those that have respect.
Was journeyman apprentice construction during summer to put myself through college. The senior members allowed me to drive as they wanted to sleep on the way home and wave to the ladies !! The Marine Corps picked up on this and MOS was in Computers & Motor T & stayed 7 years & have been in the software engineer field nationally.
This gets personal and where I need the advice which MOST will not relate too. Already know the insanity on this, the tough life it is, hard work, danger but not the issue or I can make more money doing what I am doing.
I have been a Sober Member of a 12 step program for over 26 years & still attend a lot of meetings to keep my sanity more then anything else as it is a day at a time. Talked it over with people in the program & for some reason it is inside of me strongly to do this & they did not laugh actually.
However, My Sobriety is Number 1 above anything else.
The CONCERN is will I have time to stay close to AA on the road somehow because of the constant travel. Need you all if you have advice on this to STRAIGHTEN me out now on this as I respect your input & will actually listen..
God Bless to everyone & thanks for doing what you do on a daily basis for us all.(sorry this was so long but this may be last time!!).
AA while on the road????

AA has meetings all over the country. Plus, you can call your sponsor anytime, right?
SHC, MarineNewRookie and 18Bravo Thank this. -
Hey Marine,
You might be surprised at how many other Drivers know the 12 steps. And you can look up AA meetings in towns you are going to, plan your trips be parked, bobtail to a meeting, might even be able to take your rig to the location.MarineNewRookie and 18Bravo Thank this. -

Addiction can be a beach at the best of times but the trucking lifestyle makes it harder. Stress levels, tired from irregular sleep hours, irregular mealtimes, layovers in remote truckstops with little distractions and the easy availability of booze in every truckstop. Actually it was harder in the "old" days because of the "brotherhood" among truckers. Somebody always was having a "party" (byob) somewheres and it was real easy to backslide. In alot of ways we had the same lifestyle as the outlaw bikers back then. Hell, alot of the outlaws were truckers and vise versa. I was lucky in that I had brothers on both sides who helped to keep me straight.
