    Ignorance is bliss.

Dude, this may get me banned, but here goes. What kinda moron laughs at somebody elses disability? This guy has the word "fireman" in his user ID. Could it be he lost that eye saving a life? Could it be he lost his eye in Iraq or elsewhere. Maybe he was born that way, maybe he lost it protecting a turd like you. Maybe he's a war hero that is owed greatly by society. You definitely owe this person, and board an apology for acting like a total jerk.

There but for the grace of God go I.

Not laughing at the disability - laughing at pursuing a career driving a tractor trailer with monocular vision.

I see your point, but you copied and pasted medical text. But whatever, a DOT physician would never give a medical card to a partially blind person; even hypertension (high blood pressure), which effects 60 million people, calls for a "restricted" medical card and hypertension for the most part is an asymptomatic condition (until you have a heart attack or stroke - LMAO). You don't have to respond with quotes and stories of drivers with monocular vision getting a license - it happens yes, class D license.

My point IS - the next time your out driving a combination vehicle, drive around with one eye closed and see for yourselves how much your driving ability is impaired; would you be comfortable with your wife, son, daughter, all of the above - driving next to/in front of/behind an 80,000lbs CMV with a partially blind driver? I doubt it.

I'm not "bashing" or "making fun" of this prospective driver; in fact, I wish him the best - I'm just not going to feed him fairytales only to have his dream shot down.

If he is cleared to drive a CMV, and I am proven wrong; I will personally meet all of the the correct posters/drivers at a truck stop of their choice and reward them with a bottle of Jack Daniels - LMFAO.

Please refer to above post - CRASS - LMAO, now thats a fancy, grad school kind of insulting term. I'll file that into my mental rolodex.

Again, I WASN'T making fun of a disability - I wear glasses while driving, HE PROBABLY HAS BETTER VISION IN ONE EYE THEN I DO IN BOTH - LMAO. I am just being HONEST with him - HE WON'T BE GIVEN A DOT MEDICAL CARD BY ANY REPUTABLE PHYSICIAN. I know it sucks, but it's the truth.

Oh and the war hero story is nice, but he admits it was congenital.....

I apologize to him if I seemed to direct my laughter at his visual impairment. I guess the whole "partially blind" wanting to drive an 18-wheeler question through me off, I would never make fun of anyone - especially someones disability. I guess I laughted thinking the question was kind of a "no brainer".

Well. Apparently, the assumption on your part is everyone knows FMCSR without first asking. I'm happy you were born with a Green Bible in your hands. Since our O/P didn't know, he asked. And some among us had to go the extra step and belittle him for asking a valid question. Isn't that just special.

One of the best firefighters I ever worked with was blind in his left eye. He worked his way up to Captain. And I never had more fun on a fire scene than when going in behind him on the hose.

    Now. Regarding the O/P's question:

    FMCSR 391.41
    (b) A person is physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle if that person-

    (10) Has distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70 (degrees) in the horizontal meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber;

This is Federal. Perhaps our O/P can get an intrastate license with a waiver from his own State. Unfortunately, his monocular vision will preclude him from interstate CMV operation. I don't believe there is an available federal waiver for this.

U4EA , I did not cut and paste medical text.I just made it up based on what I know.I'm not arguing that he will get cleared to drive CMV but that that not everyone views him as a threat on the roads.Based on fact and not assumption.
You made an error in judgment in been crass and had your ### handed to you for it. I'm not in a position to point fingers as it happened to me a few weeks ago.

See and acknowledge your error of judgment and apologize.
    You cant defend your self.
If you can't see my point then remember the old adage "There are none so blind as those who wont see".

I did apologize and AGAIN, I wasn't laughing at the physical disability; the way he worded his post made me chuckle - i.e. blind in one eye looking for a possible LOOPHOLE that would enable him to drive a semi.

"Loopholes" are usually not a good thing. Maybe it was just his choice of words that made me laugh.

I honestly was not trying to be disrespectful in any way, shape or form, and hope he is able to surpass all of his goals and overcome any obstacles in his way.

What's a Green Bible? Is it made from recycled paper?
