Fried foods are a main cause.
No more fried chicken at the buffet now it is Baked foods
Red meats 1 time a week and or meds.
    Worked for me.

Rule of thumb: Don't eat anything that tastes good. Your LDL will go down, your HDL will go up, your triglycerides will go down. Your will to live will slowly fade away though.:biggrin_25523:

Not just fried foods, but heavily processed foods like salami, lunchmeat, and stuff like that. Watch out for them, usually people only focus on thier HDL and LDL and they miss their very real triclyceride danger.

Here is I how got mine under control:

    Got on medication called Tricor:

    http://www.drugs.com/tricor.html

In addition, I started eating more oven cooked chicken
ate red meat once a week for protein
ate salads or fruits for snacks
    ate lots of rice
    bought low sodium foods
    chose wheat breads only
turkey based products for subs and sandwiches
only clear sodas though im guilty of sneaking in dr pepper
eliminated olives and salts from subs

It all depends on what you like to eat. I myself was scared about the change but knew I had to make a choice. As a result, I rarely eat fried food and if I do, it does not sit well. I like to eat spicy foods, so grilled or oven baked garlic chicken is on my list twice or thrice a week. I love to eat at Japanese and Chinese buffets as they are cheap; However a lot of that stuff is full of sodium. Choose wisely. I eat the garlic chicken and steamed vegetables as well as any seafood that is not fried. In some you can find crab legs and salads which will fill you up quick.

I read something about that when I was researching how to bring it down. What is the purpose of Niacin, does it work ?:biggrin_2558:

Drop fruit from your diet. The principle sugar, fructose, is converted to glycerol phosphate more efficiently than almost all other carbs. Glycerol Phosphate ->triglycerides(via the liver) -> fat storage.
