I've been involved with a few truckers. I'm in Canada but was involved with a trucker from AZ for several years. He developed prostate cancer which spread into his hips and then further. He didn't have insurance and couldn't take time off for treatment or could not afford to make truck payments.
    He's gone now.

My current EX b/f had a double lung transplant 4 years ago and is just running out of time as they are only going to last 4 or 5 years. He didn't want to be in a committed relationship in reality though his words said so.

I'm hope one day to meet a more sensible trucker who isn't abusing his body (too much) and sees a doctor regularly.

    It's important guys.

last night was in a rest area.....

Watched a guy younger than me cleaning his full plate denture.

20 some years ago I went and had $5000 worth of dental work to fix the neglect from driving OTR.

    Never again.

Prostate cancer gets 1 in 6 men. Luckily I've never had it added to my health resume. I know two that are going through it.

Trucking is rough on the human body for a number of reasons. The challenging ability to get to a doctor is one reason. Then there is diet, fatigue, sitting down all day and higher than normal stress levels.

On average a trucker lives about 10-15 years shorter than the average lifespan.

One can do many things to stay on top of things. But the lifestyle has a way of creeping up on someone no matter how hard you try. I stayed in pretty good shape until age 46 and then things done a U-turn.

A person's genetics can come into play. Certain things you can fight and postpone, but you can't stop it. I can understand you last BF's thoughts with not wanting a relationship this late in the game. Why traumatize a spouse?

Funny you say that MNdriver. That's exactly what my dental work cost. $5000.
That must be the magic number.

Overdaroad, stick your next potential BF on a treadmill. If he passes, he's good to go! :biggrin_2559:

Prostate cancer can be detected early if a PSA test is done with regular blood work . Testing should be done by all men over 50 but I have heard cases of men in their early 40's that didn't detect it soon enough . Prostate cancer has a high cure rate with early detection . Testing is essential . By the times symptoms show up it is not curable .

    Very true.

But when doctors are charging to just see them in excess of 300.00, additional costs are questionable.

I'm fortunate to be a veteran with a nearby clinic . I get my blood work done there . Even health insurance doesn't cover PSA testing more than once a year .
