Does anyone know about benefits? When drivers say a company has good benefits, what does that look like?

What sorts of coverages do you need? Does the health insurance offered by the company fit your needs? If so, it is a good benefit. If not, it isn't so good. Everybody is going to have a different view of what is "good" and what isn't.

In my opinion, relying upon someone else to pick and choose what coverages and exclusions your policy will have isn't very smart. That other person is not looking out for your best interest, but rather protecting their own bottom line. They are going to offer as little as they can and still attract "quality" employees...and sometimes you can shop around and find an identical policy (same company, same coverages, same deductibles, same exclusions, etc...) for LESS as an individual policy than you are going to be paying for that group policy through your employer. The other problem with group policies is that if you change jobs, you are either going to pay a ridiculously high premium for COBRA coverage, or take your chances for 90 days or so until you are eligible for your new employer's group plan.

Other benefits are a little less "personal". Paid vacation time...sick/personal day allowance...passenger policy...pet policy...etc. What do you want from a company? Personally, all I want is an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. If I don't work, I shouldn't get paid. I'd prefer a slightly higher wage and NO paid vacation...if I want to take some time off, I'll do so unpaid.

So for me, company sponsored health insurance and a paid vacation is NOT going to attract me to the job....others wouldn't take a job unless it offered those. Everybody is different...only you know what is best for you.
