Hi all. I'm a new driver and plan to be the only one who ever got healthier by driving a truck.

I stepped on a scale while on my very first solo trip back in Feb/13 and tipped in at 384 lbs. Oof. Since then, I have dropped about 30 lbs thanks to portion controlled meals and better choices. Last month I gave up red meat all together, and have felt so good that I'm considering going completely vegetarian. I've started walking when I can, and the next time I'm home I plan to grab my long neglected mountain bike and wedge it into the passenger seat of the truck (I live in Denver, so when I'm at sea level walking just doesn't work me hard enough for good cardio).

Here's my question: for those of you that are into getting your exercise on the road, what kind of a routine are you following? I'm looking for a mix of cardio and strength training, and prefer something I can do IN the truck. I don't expect to be able to exercise every day, but I'm ready to commit to an hour 4x a week. I'm 6'2" and have a very large frame, and my completely trim weight in my 20s was 205-215. Now that I'm older, I'll settle for a comfortable weight of 230-235 which is where I was as I approached 30.

    Wildblackyonder and DozerCowboy Thank this.

I started driving a year ago I weighed 220. I was home 3 weeks ago for a Dr appointment.. Got on the scale..310!!! Holy crap.since that day I have changed my eating habits and I'm walking at least a mile a day. I have dropped 17lbs since then...I'm eating better and drinking more water... What got me into the Dr was that my ankles were so swollen.....I was scared... I do not want to die out here on the road.I have a beautiful wife and two daughters I want to be around for.I will continue with eating better walking and drinking more water for now.I may graduate to running.

Bring your running shoes, jump rope, 35# Kettlebell, workout pad, resistance bands. It weighs less than 40#'s, takes up very little room and gives you a wide variety of possible workouts. Learn stretching routines, military type calisthentics and yoga.

I commend both of you, Reroll and Wildblackyonder! I admire your goals and action towards a much healthier lifestyle as truckers! Keep up the good work for yourselves and in encouraging others here.

Did the doctor check your A1C hemoglobin after a blood draw? Swollen ankles is a sign of diabetes. But keep up the good work with diet and excercise.

I have an aggressive 10 minute workout that I'm gonna do regularily when I get out there, probably behind the trailer when I park for my 10 hour. I have to!

I have a 15 minute kettlebell routine I do 3 times a week, tabata jump rope 4 minutes 3 times a week( google it), and I also do a convict conditioning routine for 15 minutes 2 times a week (google this to). Maintain a ckd diet, and do my best to walk 3 hours a week.
