Good day all I have a question about whether it is worth my effort to try to get a class A CDL due to health issues.

I have a few issues that cause me to wonder if I will get hired as a driver. I have High Blood Pressure (controlled with meds to 128/68), and Type 2 Diabetes (again controlled with pills (no injectables) with my blood sugar controlled between 70 and 120 (range my Dr set as my goal)).

I don't want to invest $3000 to $4000 in drivers school to be medically unable to get job OTR.

Any advice or help is welcome

    Thanks

As a long time driver who has underlying health issues myself, which are controlled, I can tell you the health conditions you listed will not impede you from gaining and maintaining a Class A CDL. What will happen is, you, like me, will only be able to obtain a one year DOT medical card, as compared to others with no health issues often obtain a two year DOT medical card. So you spend an extra 90 minutes a year seeing the doctor. No big deal! :)

Feel blessed not for what health conditions you have, but for those you do not. Best wishes to you in obtaining your Class A CDL. :)

    Thanks for the reply.

It is a big investment and don't want to waste the money.
