I am in the process of getting some Varicose Veins taken care of before I apply to CDL School. It's looking like 5-6 months of surgery and wait, surgery and wait, THEN the doctor will do another test to see if they need to just go ahead and remove the vein altogether.

I am just reading over the DOT Physical form, and Varicose Veins is one of the check points. I know they can cause issues with blood clots and orthostatic blood pressure drops (blood just pooling back into the legs instead of forcing it's way to your brain causing blackouts)

That said, anyone here have any experience with them and the DOT Physical? I know my family doctor and the doctor I am seeing for my veins will step up for me and recommend I am fit for work (after the surgeries are complete). Thanks

I have some varicose veins in the front of my left leg. My regular doctor who also gave me my DOT physical had mentioned them in the past and said to consult him if they ever bothered me. He didn't say anything about them during my DOT physical though. For me they are mostly genetic as they are in most men who get them. Do you have them real bad or something?

I've seen worse (my mom is a nurse). That said, mine are decently bad. Combo of family history and being really really overweight, I have surgery scheduled for both legs. I've had an infection in my left leg that has discolored it, but it is lightening up yearly. I have dropped 90 pounds with another 110 to go to get to goal weight, and the Vascular Surgeon is pretty confident he can fix them.

I have full range of motion with it, I wear compression socks all day. I didn't see anywhere on the card that would auto-disqualify. It just had that Asterisk by it and a comments section. I just maybe wondering if anyone had them fairly bad and then been treated for them to go out on the road.

I got them on my front left leg as well. They had gotten pretty showy but never bothered me. Lately I've been taking Vitamin C, Ginko Biloba, and Copper for them. They have reduced in size dramatically. I may try Collinsonia (Stoneroot) again soon as this herb is supposed to shrink them down. I tried it in the past but alone it did not do much. Google them, along with the keyword "Varicose veins" and see for yourself how they help.

The old tried and true are Horse Chestnut and Butcher's Broom. But these never helped me at all. I think the Collinsonia worked fairly well however. This was before I started taking the 3 protocols that I take now.

FYI varicose veins will return after surgery if you don't treat the cause. You need to strengthen your veins and capillaries, internally. Hence the recommended treatment above.
