My husband's time to renew his CDL medical certificate has come up by 10/10. He is also having a cataract problem and will be seeing a surgeon next week to schedule surgery. Since right now the vision is not good but should be fine after the surgery what will they do about the medical certificate? Anyone run into this? He does not want to lose it even though he is not driving full time at the moment.
I am a worried wife!

if he can pass the dot physical right now he should get done before his cert expires ... his driver license will revert to just a standard license (at least it does in TX ) and then he will have to retest for it and all his endorsements including the road test.. (again that is how TX does it, got notified by the dmv in writing, my dot physical expires in NOV)... just saying wish you best luck

Thank you. I am not sure how fast this Dr will do it. We go on next Wed, and then set it up. He has to have physical by 10th of Oct. Do they give any leeway if not done exactly on time?
-
depends how fast you get to the dmv... may letter was computer generated .... got it shortly after 1 sep... my cert expires in nov... letter doesn't say anything about leeway... physical card is tied to drivers license nation wide... still need to carry it though.... i also carry copy of my long form....

Thanks. This cataract just came up fast, some weird fast growing one, and he did not know the physical was coming up since his license is still not due for renewal (for some reason they are not at the same time). Had no idea till this came two weeks ago and said Oct.10.

since the two are married .... (license & dot physical) my license doesn't expire till 2018 ... just another federal mandate (intrusion)... hope it all works out
