ya i can buy meth, crack, heroin, speed, oxycotin and everything else off the net too but am i gonna do it? no. im done discussing it with you. if you wanna do it your way i don't give a #### honestly. what you do done affect me one way or another. oh wait yes it does when you misadjust the machine and its not doing anything to help your sleep apnea and your tired and fall asleep and kill the family on the road next to you then yes it does affect me and everyone else you come in contact with. it amazes me the lengths people will go to save a couple bucks. get some better insurance. my sleep test (both of them) my machine, and seeing the doctor cost 5k. know what it cost me out of pocket? 130 bucks.

All the drugs you mentioned are illegal. No argument there at all. You are trying to expand your argument to include a cpaps settings and have failed. Relax, it is no reflection upon you personally. You simply have been mis informed and have bought into some of the hype out there, happens all the time. I have tried to explain the benefit to you of taking some measures into your own hands that "may" improve your results while getting used to using a cpap machine. By trying different pressures (no major swings either way mind you) over a couple days may help you zero in on the best combination for you. A sleep doctor does the same exact thing based on your answers each time you see him or her. My way is faster and costs you nothing out of pocket.

You came here complaining about your experiences with a cpap machine. You are new to the entire process and now all of a sudden you claim to be an expert about regs and now sensiblility? Cmon dude you either want help or you want to complain. Which is it?

The facts are there is a big divide between the so called professionals that have become wealthy doing sleep tests and selling equipment to insurance companies. Funny that we had some experts in this field try to get FMCSA regulators to mandate tests for every trucker out there that is over weight, snores, has restless sleep, etc based on their "parameters." They were exposed as being self serving and opportunistic and dismissed from the hearings.

Go ahead, do some research at other sites including the American Sleep Apnea Association as truckerdad suggested. You will see this is a very contentious issue. No-one can cite specific regulations or laws prohibiting an owners manual adjustment of a cpaps pressure settings.

I am rested because I "use" my cpap machine every night. Yes I have adjusted the pressure settings on it personally as well. The argument seems to be you are unwilling to adjust the settings yourself and think "no-one" else should be allowed to adjust the setting without a doctors approval. In that respect we will have to agree to disagree.

We have offered you suggestions on how to improve your experience with the cpap. You don't like some of the answers offered so you have become combative and seek to discredit that advice. Try different types of masks and work with the sleep doctor closely until you have found the right combinations.

If YOU are unable to get the cpap working for you then it is YOU that should find another line of work (just using your own logic against you Mattbnr). Gotta keep those other motorists safe from tired truckers!

ive never had a problem staying awake. ive always been able to stay up for days at a time. no problem. im just doing this cpap because its required by the government. if it wasn't id throw the machine into the street and run it over. i have no energy problems, no tired problems, no alertness problems, no high blood pressure, no diabetes, no heart problems. in fact i have none of the "signs" of sleep apnea. the only reason i got the sleep study was cause my neck was too big for the doctor so i had to have it done.

You can get a sleep study done for 250.00, you dont have to pay that much for one. You should try a different mask and see if you can find one more comfortable. They also make special pillows that allow you to sleep on your side or stomach, so that may help you. I also suggest getting an APAP instead of the CPAP as it will automatically adjust the presure as you sleep. I love mine.

how did you guys find out that you have sleep apnea? did you have to go to a specialist, who watches you sleep?

or did you just kinda know from how well you sleep?

i don't think i snore, but can you have it if you don't snore?

I will sleep for 10 hours and still be tired, i toss and turn all night.

no, maybe 20 lbs or so. I just put on my winter 20. But for years I have been normal weight, with same problems.

I think My internal clock is just a 26 hour clock, instead of 24. Like I wish a day was 30 hours, instead of 24. I just don't want to go to bed at night.

    This info is from the Mayo clinic;

    Definition
Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. You may have sleep apnea if you snore loudly and you feel tired even after a full night's sleep.

Sleep apnea occurs in two main types:
    • Obstructive sleep apnea, the more common form that occurs when throat muscles relax
    • Central sleep apnea, which occurs when your brain doesn't send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing
Additionally, some people have complex sleep apnea , which is a combination of both.
If you think you might have sleep apnea, see your doctor. Treatment is necessary to avoid heart problems and other complications.

    Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apneas overlap, sometimes making the type of sleep apnea more difficult to determine. The most common signs and symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apneas include:
    • Excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia)
    • Loud snoring, which is usually more prominent in obstructive sleep apnea
    • Observed episodes of breathing cessation during sleep
    • Abrupt awakenings accompanied by shortness of breath, which more likely indicates central sleep apnea
    • Awakening with a dry mouth or sore throat
    • Morning headache
    • Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
    When to see a doctor

Consult a medical professional if you experience, or if your partner observes, the following:
    • Snoring loud enough to disturb the sleep of others or yourself
    • Shortness of breath that awakens you from sleep
    • Intermittent pauses in your breathing during sleep
    • Excessive daytime drowsiness, which may cause you to fall asleep while you're working, watching television or even driving
    This info is from web Md;

The most common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) that you may notice include:
    • Excessive daytime sleepiness.
    • Waking with an unrefreshed feeling after sleep, having problems with memory and concentration, feeling tired, and experiencing personality changes.
    • Morning or night headaches. About half of all people with sleep apnea report headaches.2
    • Heartburn or a sour taste in the mouth at night.
    • Swelling of the legs.
    • Getting up during the night to urinate (nocturia).
    • Sweating and chest pain while you are sleeping.
Symptoms of sleep apnea that others may notice include:

    • Episodes of not breathing (apnea), which may occur as few as 5 times an hour (mild apnea) to more than 50 times an hour (severe apnea). How many episodes you have determines how severe your sleep apnea is.
    • Loud snoring. Almost all people who have sleep apnea snore, but not all people who snore have sleep apnea.
