I have a Resperonics cpap machine, I used a 600 watt cheap $50 inverter I bought at a Pilot. I never had a problem with battery draw or anything like that in hot and cold weather. I didn't use the humidifier, I kept it home. I drove an '09 Volvo. As for your medical card, since this is a breathing problem, you have to get it renewed every year. Luckily, I never had a problem with a company frowning on using a cpap. They asked me "are you being treated for it", and I say yes and that's that. But I do hear of some companies frowning on people using a machine. But I think it's rarer than what most people think. (imho).

some won't hire you with it. I don't see how they would know unless you told them though.

I got a one year DOT medical card from my doc that treats me for sleep apnea. I use a respironic machine with a data card. No one has ever asked me for proof of use, although my insurance company did call me to see if I was using the machine.

None of the small companies I have worked for have ever asked me about it. Being treated is the key to being able to get your medical card.

It is a very good treatment option, and helps me tremendously, as I have to have high pressure settings of around 17 or 18 on the machine. I always use it, as it is the ony way I can get any good sleep.

Now, if I could just get a machine to replace my Viagra tablets!!! :biggrin_2559:

Sharpshooter.... if you can PROVE a company did not hire you only because you have sleep apnea.. and your sleep apnea is currently being effectively treated with current CPAP data downloads.

That is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and you NEED to file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Trucking compaines are getting away with discrimination against drivers with sleep apnea because drivers will not file a complaint.

There are groups that will help anyone filing complaints with EEOC over disability discrimination like Equip for Equality....
