So, how many times are you going to post the same comment?

I passed the physical, didnt take it for a week so i passed the drug test. Told the doctor I take it, gave her my doctors note that stated I was more than capable of driving a truck for extended periods OTR or local. 3 days later the company personnel gave me a greyhound ticket back home. My doctor says that they have a few truckers that take the same medication as me and drive OTR. Sucks, but what can you do.
The thing that gets me is that blood pressure medication is ok, and adderal isn't. If someone doesn't take their blood pressure medicine they can die, have a stroke, a heart attack and so on. If I dont take my medication i get sleepy. hmmm is that fair? Not to mention it provides focus , and eliminates drowsyness. So trucking companies dont want their employees to be alert when their driving? its just retarded because it comes up on a drug test. Well i say put blood pressure medication detection on drug tests, and while were at it put everything else. There is no logical reason that I can find, why adderall shouldnt be allowed.

It's amphetamine based - that's the disqualifying factor. The use of certain prescription drugs whose base chemical properties are also the same in an illicit drug will get you disqualified on a drug screening. I know people argue that it's prescribed to them by their MD and all, but there are enough people out of work these days looking for new careers/jobs that can pass a drug test - no question. The company doesn't want the liability - plain and simple.

Of course they want you to be alert, but why would they want someone that has to be drug induced into "alertness". Cocaine is also an effective way to stay alert while driving too.

your describing if someone abuses it or develops an addiction to it. and thats a whole nother story. and if you develop a tolerance for it , that is why you have to visit the doctor each month to talk about these things.
They will accept me if I stop taking it, which would make me depend on large amounts of caffiene,(like most truckers) which is horrible for your system. Which is drug induced alertness.

As far as liability goes, the doctor note says that the drug has nothing to do with my ability to drive. So if an accident came out, it would be purely of my own actions, not of the drug. The liability at that point would lie on the doctor that authorized the note.

OSHB is correct. No one taking a mind or mood altering drug or narcotic will not be allowed issuance of a CDL as well as any other type of mental or physical atlering drug such as paid killers.

I am sorry but the sections of the law cited above are not the correct ones for prescriptions.
Directly from the FMCSA DOT GOV
Part 391.41: Physical qualifications for drivers.

    Sections (b)(12)(i) - (b)(13)

(b)(12)(i) Does not use a controlled substance identified in 21 CFR 1308.11 Schedule I, an amphetamine, a narcotic, or any other habit-forming drug.

(b)(12) (ii) Exception. A driver may use such a substance or drug, if the substance or drug is prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner who:

(b)(12)(ii)(A) Is familiar with the driver’s medical history and assigned duties; and

(b)(12)(ii)(B) Has advised the driver that the prescribed substance or drug will not adversely affect the driver’s ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle; and

(b)(13) Has no current clinical diagnosis of alcoholism.

ADHD ADD and AADD are behavioral disorders that even in mild forms should be taken serious. The last thing someone driving a tractor trailer needs to be doing is NOT paying attention.

Talking to your Dr is the best advice to see if your ADA protected disability is something you can work with and not have to struggle through life with. The physician at your school will not have the ability to over-ride your Dr as hes NOT familiar with your disorder and how it affects you. Don't let them push you around because you have a disability. If they were allowed to do so the DOT would not have put that in the clause.

Now if your just taking the drugs to take them your a dumbarse and one of the reasons we have all these regulations.

What medications disqualify a CMV driver?

A driver cannot take a controlled substance or prescription medication without a prescription from a licensed practitioner.

If a driver uses a drug identified in 21 CFR 1308.11 (391.42(b)(12)) or any other substance such as amphetamine, a narcotic, or any other habit forming drug, The driver is medically unqualified.

There is an exception: the prescribing doctor can write that the driver is safe to be a commercial driver while taking the medication. In this case, the Medical Examiner may, but does not have to certify the driver.

Any anti-seizure medication used for the prevention of seizures is disqualifying.

    Methadone use is disqualifying.

I take ritalin for my adhd and all I needed to pass the dot was a letter from my doctor that stated that it should in no way impare my ability to operate a motor vehicle, passenger or commercial. If you can get your dot physical with YOUR doctor first.
