good advice from lil daddy

Hey lil Daddy, thanks man thats great advice, I'm graduating school in a month and plan on doing OTR only short term though lol anyway health is a major major issue with me also...I"m twenty eight and have heart problems in my family, although self inflicted through smoking which i do not do lol, anyway I take tons of vitamins i.e, vitamin c, garlic oil <<lots ,cinnamon pills, green tea pills, cayenne pepper pills, apple cider vinegar pills, multi vitamin, fish oil, chromium picolinate, and also drink apple cider vinegar with green tea and honey each day. Anyway I really worry about not getting exercise while over the road and this issue has concerned me greatly, so thanks for that advice man I've worried that i'd not be able to get exercise and gain weight back like i've done since ive been twenty. Well thanks for the good information write me back with any good tips or whatever you got lol

OTR workout

Trucking is a whole new world to me. I have about three weeks experience and I'm afraid to fall off on my work out prgrm. I think I do ok on the workout side while at home I just need to work on my diet. Can someone pls give me some ideas on what I can do while on the road to break a sweat and get the lungs working? I don't like running cause I hear it's hard on the body or else I would just do that along with some other stuff.

Well, I've been out of powerlifting for about a year, and can't believe I'm posting this, but:

body-weight only exercises can be very good for staying/getting in shape. Just check out how the Navy S.E.A.L.S. train, etc.

If your joints can handle it, I'd recommend running a little bit, as long as you have the proper shoes. (A good running / tri store that has a treadmill w/ camera can get you squared away for the right shoes for you).

IMO, running is the best thing you can do for your body, as long as you don't take it to the extreme.

I appreciate the thoughts posted here- I haven't started trucking yet but I work with truckers and talk to them everyday. my question is,
does anyone know how possible it is to exercise in the trailer? anyone try that before? I am going to be starting OTR soon and am worried about being able to keep up my exercise regimen.

I can see doing pushups etc in the bunk, but what about cardio? thanks

Walk fast. Won't stress your joints like running but you'll still get the cardio workout. That's what I'm going to try doing when I get on the road. Never run in the winter because your knees need to be warm (literally) so they won't wear out.

Hi,

I just got put on a dedicated run with CR England. I'm home every night. the only thing is I'm new and this run is night driving I only drive for about 4 hours a night but I'm up most of the night. I also have time for a 45 min to 1 1/2 hour nap. However, I still get tired mostly when dawn approaches. Can anyone give me some advice? This was my first week and I worked Mon- Fri. Next week I may be working 6 days. I feel like I'm slipping with my exercise routine because I need to sleep in the day and I'm working at night. I only have a day or two off a week. I'm worrying about the weight creeping back on me. I was weighing about 240 now I'm down to about 208. I like the way I feel and look. I don't want to go back to my old self. Can somebody please help me?

Thanks

Would you mind making a grocery list of must haves in the truck? Thats assuming one has at least a cooler and some form of cooker like a lunch box stove.

hey scurvydog

If you will read some of my post at the beginning of this thread, you'll see plenty of foods that I carry in my truck that are healthy and nutritious and conducive to clean eatting.

kashi granola bars. theyre not actually granola, but youll find em in that aisle. good fiber, fairly low fat. chocolate chip dried cherry / and plain peanut butter are great.

bumblebee tuna makes several lunch packs, fat free, normal, lemon pepper, tomato basil and a thai chile. i stay away from the thai chile and the regular one, HIGH in fat when you take into account how big the thing is. theyre about 99 cents a pop.

wally mart sams choice dried fruits, i love dried apples and apricots. buy a bag of mixed so you can see which ones you like, and then just buy regular bags of those. and the ocean spray craisins / regular raisins. craisins get stuck in your teeth so be aware.

i have 2 cases of dasani in fridge, one grape flavored, one non flavored.

almonds, just plain almonds. 10-12 is to be considered one serving.

------------------------------------------------------------------

3 scrambled eggs, wheat toast. butter if you must

oatmeal/ cream of wheat/ grits. fresh fruit tossed in if theyve got it.

------------------------------------------------------------------
subway, cause you can never find one on the road....
6 inch wheat turkey or ham, not both..... lettuce, tomato, spicy mustard, no mayo, ever. onions, bell peppers at your discretion. lays baked if you need something crunchy.

burger king, whopper jr. no mayo.

mcdonalds, the orange salad with ginger dressing. or grilled chicken with no mayo.

arby's - marthas vineyard salad with raspberry dressing, they also have a turkey sandwich.

--------------------------------------------------------------

6-10 oz STEAK. seared, not fried. sides are vegetable of the day x2 learn to love carrots.

grilled chicken, with veg of day x2.

can occasionally get the baked potato, but dont make it a habit.

every once in awhile i cheat and get chocolate milk and oreos.

never been so regular in my life, am down 17 pounds and 7 % body fat. 50 more pounds to go.

as far as running, new studies coming out that jogging in the long term is good cardio but sucks for weight loss basically. full on sprinting works better, is slightly better cardio, and is faster to get done.

get a stopwatch- run as fast as you possibly can for as long as you can, (no more than 45 secondsto start) take an equally long break, and do it again. third time, take break, and run like the wind, right when youre about to keel over, slow down and stop. dont just stop, ease off of it, hard on muscles.

i carry 4 dumbbells in truck, do crunches for mid section, pushups (pain in the arse when youre 6'5" put hands on the edge of my bunk and put a leg on either side of the shifter.) and start the whole deal off with 30 or so squats with a 30# bell in each hand, releases more testosterone than anything, and makes for a better workout. i generally do the whole deal in about 20 - 25 minutes, every other day.
