Changes in the physical?

Are there going to be any changes in the physical now with the new rules and all? You know, give em an inch and they take a mile. I passed my DOT for driving a cab last year. My sticking point was the BP, but it was 127/76 on my meds and within limits. I'm not in fantastic shape, but neither do I have anything else wrong with me. I have a history of diabetes in my family, but I personally do not have it.

When I go back in to take my physical for a company by whom I may get hired, will these circumstances be held against me? Like I said, I have no unpreventable problems or things that can't be taken care of with some more work. I'd like to hear your thoughts before I dedicate time and money to this. Thanks.

It all depends on the place doing the exam. I went to our company Dr. for one several years ago. Had an 8:15 am appt, sat in waiting room until 9:30. Sat in exam room until 11:15 when Dr finally came in. He checked my BP, way high. Has the nerve to ask if I was aggravated about something? I explained that I had been waiting for three ########## hours, he never checked anything else, just signed the form and quickly left the room.

Does anyone know if Canadian medical standards accept high blood pressure if it is being regulated successfully?

BP

When I went to the orientation # England alot of guys had high BP maybe because of the traveling n stuff. The next day many were fine. Mines was high the first day and the second day the doc had to take it about 5 times b4 he got a good reading. He could not get the second # down so he gave up and gave me a medical for one year instead of two. I workout and try to eat right so I don't think there is any reason why it should be high. The traveling and orientation was very stressful. That's the only explanation I could come up with.

It's a questionaire, not a physical.

Our Canadian physical which I did last week was a questionnaire from the D.O.T. that you take to the doctor. You pay his administration fee for him to ask you the questions on the sheet and tick off the boxes. He takes your blood pressure, pee in a bottle, listen to your lungs, give you an eye test ( I passed that and could barely see the letters). Then he stamps it and your physical is done. To me it is just another money grab. If you are really concerned about your health have your doctor do a full blown physical with lab tests, x-rays and stress test. Again don't leave it up to the industry to be concerned about your health or education. It won't happen. Be your best and do it yourself.
