Three Dental Problems that May Indicate Greater Health Issues

Three Dental Problems that May Indicate Greater Health Issues

Poor dental hygiene and tooth decay can lead to heart problems, bacterial infections and an early death. But there are things that can be done to catch and fix problems that could eventually lead to greater health problems.
The most important rule of thumb is to see a dentist at least once a year, said Matthew Messina, a Fairview Park, Ohio, dentist and the consumer advisor for the American Dental Association.
“One of the great things is that we’ve come to a place where people understand that anything going on in the mouth that is out of the ordinary can affect your overall health,” he said.
“The most important thing people can do is look at their mouths,” said Messina. “Look around while you’re brushing. Look at your tongue and your teeth and take notice of changes. People need to be their best advocates and realize that pain, swelling and redness are all ways that our body tells us that something is wrong.”

I no longer have ANY teeth to decay. After patching them up and spending a lot $$ every time I finally had my fill of tooth aches etc. Worst pain I've ever had. Probably just as bad or worse than a really bad back ache, and I've had more than my share of those too. Last yr the dentist wanted as much to patch me up again as it would cost for surgery and full dentures, so I opted to have them ALL pulled at once. Out patient surgery at the dentist office, 2.5 hrs of my life I don't remember and it was over.

Coming up on a yr with no tooth aches. I lost a whole pant size from the time of the surgery, and until I could eat whole food again. Full dentures suck compared to natural teeth, but I'll take em in trade for no tooth aches.

I know what you mean...I had a root canal done on one of my back teeth, cost me over a 1,000 dollars for that.
Didn't realize that the dentist had did a terrible job on my tooth. Kept having pain in that tooth and dealt with it for a spell till I could not anymore.
Went to another dentist and he told me by the xray that the previous dentist had screwed up the work and my tooth and it would have to come out.
I was pissed!
Had it pulled and I have to tell ya, I don't have that darn pain anymore.

The Navy dentists did a great job of jacking my teeth up. I had 2 wisdom removed, one of the others he left had a cavity... so he drilled.. and drilled and drilled... until there wasn't much of a tooth left. then he smeared that silver junk over it and called it good. I now have a silver blob in the back of my mouth. I know for sure by the xrays it was not a bad cavity. I broke a tooth while I was in the Navy as well, and they said they didn't have time to fix it. I still have that same broke tooth and its about to need to come out. Worlds worst dentists.. NAS Lemoore, CA.

I had braces as a teenager. That was one huge mistake I wish my parents had never made, because I am the one paying for it now! When the orthodontist took the bands off.... he took off bits of my teeth!! The dentist I go to now has been working to repair this mess for YEARS, and they constantly need more work! I know the man is making very little if anything off me. He charged me $50 for a MAJOR filling, and $400 for a root canal and the crown! And I swear I need another $700-800 in work done soon. (I mean, hello, the back molar just crumbled yesterday!)

Navy dentists must be the same dentists that worked on my father when he was incarcerated?? They pulled three teeth, and none of them were the one that was abcessed!

My nephew had two cavities filled about a month ago and found out those weren't even the teeth that had the cavities!

ROOT CANAL.. a farce!

Had a dentist years ago explain a root canal. If you have PAIN in a tooth, it is an indication that there is something that is causing the pain. A root canal removes the nerve that tells you that you ave PAIN. It DOES NOT fix the problem causing the pain. Ultimately removing the root, only kills the nerve, and no matter what The American Dental Society believes, does more harm to the mouth then having the tooth pulled. Nowadays, it seems that there are more specialized dentist, then there are family physicians.
