Lawsuit: Woman claims IdleAire unit killed spouse, poisoned her

Lawsuit: Woman claims IdleAire unit killed spouse, poisoned her

Quote:
A Florida woman contends a Knoxville firm's technology, designed to help save the environment, killed her husband and poisoned her.
Nancy Younger has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against IdleAire Technologies Corp. alleging the firm's window power unit piped deadly carbon monoxide fumes into the cab of the tractor-trailer she and her late husband, William Younger, were sleeping in while parked at a Knoxville truck stop last year.
The lawsuit, prepared by Miami attorney Don A. Russo and filed in Knox County Circuit Court, seeks as much as $18 million in damages for both permanent and debilitating injuries she suffered and the fatal injuries her husband sustained as a result of what the document alleges was IdleAire's defective product.

Wow, that is kind of scary! The story leaves many unanswered questions about the death and poisoning.

Maybe this is why IdleAir has filed for bankruptcy?

It was included as a liability in their bankruptcy filing.

Probably not "THE" reason since their debts exceeded their income by about $30M last year.

I fail to see this as entirely credible, I've slept in truck stops with truck running around running trucks, before the fuel price hit crazy no one turned off the truck, with the air full blast, beside running trucks with reefers... the full article contends that the IDLEAIRE pumped in air filled with carbon monxcide from other idling trucks, now that is foolish. CO2 emissions from trucks are far less then cars, [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. however, if the IDLEAIRE unit itself was faulty it would be more plausible depending on the type of unit used to heat/cool I am unsure what method of ac/heating IDLEAIRE actually uses, but to contend the cause was idling trucks is heresay at best.

I'm with you on this one. Unless she has "proof" her husband died of carbon monoxide poisoning and can prove the method of delivery. She may get charged with fraud.

The heating elements are electric.

Under ordinary conditions, it is less dense than air, but during fires, it accumulates on the ground, so that if poisoning causes loss of consciousness, the amount of carbon monoxide inhaled increases and the possibility of fatality is radically increased.
Technically speaking, the fan would have to have been directly over an exhaust pipe of a running truck to pump it in the cab. Which is totally bogus, since IdleAire uses the air in your cab....it just recirculates it.

So they have no case. Just another "money grab".

That's correct. But she will still have to prove method of delivery. And I don't see that happening.
