| I took the in cab sleep apnea test I took the free in cab sleep apnea test offered by a well known health clinic that services truckers which I cannot name for fear of advertising, but which you may have heard of on a radio station I also cannot name. Here is some information. You will have your vitals taken, give a very short history of health, have your neck measured and your weight taken and your BMI recorded. You will be handed a machine the size of a tv remote with two wires coming off it. One will be tube that goes into your nostrils (like an oxygen machine at the hospital) and will record your breaths, including how many, oxygen saturation and snoring events. Another wire will lead to a heartbeat monitor that sticks lightly to your finger. You need to be able to give at least 4-6 hours of sleep to the study. The next morning you turn in the machine and get your results within about 15 minutes. They have the cpaps there and they are covered by most insurance. They do not inform your company. Hope that helps someone. |

My cousin who drives has one of these machine for his truck and all he needs to do is get a 350w inverter to run his machine. Not all driver have this condition but knowing (kinda) that there is a place or clinic that does do this testing is good to know. If people or yourself have enough posting they or you can PM one another to get this information from you w/o fear of advertising for this clinic. |

| well, I disagree. Normally if you're asleep, you wouldn't know you quit breathing. That's the purpose of the test. |
| ||||
| If you quit breathing you wake up and don't get enough sleep and are fatigued during the day . You know you have a sleep problem . If you aren't fatigued no problem , no need for unnecessary testing . |

| Sorry RickG that's not how it works. By waking up in the night they mean the depth of your sleep not actually waking up as you would think. It is common for a person with sleep apnea to "waken" 200 - 500 times a night. The machine helps you sleep soundly. That's a big help! |

| I have a CPAP machine that runs on 12 volts. No need for a inverter. And yes, it really has helped the quality of my sleep... |
| ||||
| Could a person such as myself being 6'3" 185# have sleep apnea? I had my roomate at orientation say i snored/gasped for breath loudly sporadically throughout the night one night.

| Its possible, too many symptoms of sleep apnea to narrow it down to just one...Talk to your DR and get a sleep study done. If your worried about it, its better to know and deal with it, than to NOT know and suffer from it.... |
